Home league match played on 28 February 2009.
Kicked off at 12:00 AM

The game today was played on a well prepared pitch as usual and we should be very grateful to all of the hard work that Lewis puts in, the weather was warm and sunny for the 3rd game in a row.

Martlesham won the toss and decided to KO the game started well with both teams working hard and a much improved Martlesham looking well up for the game. Sax were the 1st team to get a shot on goal after some great work in midfield and Ed played a ball through to George who will feel he should have done better with his shot. On 7 minutes after some good play starting at the back the ball came through to Rossi and he put it past the keeper to make it 1 - 0, the next few minutes Sax took control of the game and it was all played in the Martlesham half of the pitch on 12 we won a free kick on the edge of the area and Ed stepped up to put the ball just over the top of the goal. The back 4 and Jack were working hard to cope with all the Martlesham attacks and were doing extremely well. We were 2 regular starters down today and we lost Kyle on 20 when he was struggling with his foot Zach went on and we changed a few of the lads around to try to get the shape back into the team. We were missing Kyle in midfield and Jack made 2 great saves in 2 mins to keep us in the lead and Kris also made a block on the edge of the area . Martlesham were pressing hard and were looking like the most likely team to score a shot went in and had Jack beaten but a combination of Sam and Ollie cleared the ball of the line even though we heard from the side of the pitch great goal it had not crossed the line and we kept our lead. That seemed to wake the boys up and we put the Martlesham goal under intense pressure Tom played a ball into the box and after the ball was knocked around by the defence it finally fell to Ed who got the ball to Rossi and he scored to make it 2 - 0. Martlesham were on the attack again and won a corner in the dying minutes of the half which was dealt with by the defence and with Jack playing the ball out the whistle went for Half time.

Sax 2 - 0 Martlesham

Jake came on to start the 2nd half with George having a rest for a few minutes Rossi went on a run and went around most of the team and tried to go round 1 too many and the Martlesham team won the ball back to kill off the attack. With Kyle off the pitch the team went quiet and were struggling at times to get on top of the game . All the lads kept going and Martlesham were making them work hard for the win we got a corner on 4 but even though Tom put a good ball in the Martlesham lads got rid of it and we had to start again. Jack having a great game in goal played 1 of his long balls to Ed who was unlucky not to score and it was looking like it was going to be 1 off those games for Ed. On 43 Ed got his reward for his hard work when he got his 1st of 2 and we only had to wait 2 minutes for his 2nd after some good play in Midfield by Kyle and Fish, Kyle had come back on and was doing well after John had gone home to get him an extra pair of his socks. Jack made 2 good saves and without him today we would have conceded more than we did. Martlesham had a goal ruled out for offside and that was a warning of what they could do if they were given a chance. Kyle looking refreshed by the socks Scored after he was set up by Ed to make it 5 - 0. And the lads were looking comfortable with Tom who had moved into midfield working hard to close down and win the ball back if we lost it, Martlesham showed a bit of quality when they got the ball in midfield and played a ball through to score a consolation goal which seemed to spur them on George was back on to replace Ollie who had another great game at left back. The defence were having to work harder than they had for most of the game and Kris made another great challenge to deny a shot on goal that was about the last action of the game and we are happy to take the 3 points and move on to our next league game against Woodbridge.

St Johns and Woodbridge played each other today and the best result for us was a draw we are now 13 points clear at the top with both of the teams in 2nd and 3rd to play. The boys played some good stuff at times today and will need to do that when we play the next game and in the cup game if we want to get in to the final. Well done to the boys today we are now 20 games unbeaten and it will be good to keep it going.
