Away league match played on 20 December 2008.
Kicked off at 12:00 AM

The weather was much milder than last week and the pitch at least had some grass on it this week.  Sax started well and Ed who was on his return from injury had a shot go wide inside the 1st minute.  It was only a minute later that he was set up by John who was playing wide on the right where he does well and sets up lots of goals as well as scoring them.  Ed made no mistake this time , to score our first and to get Ed and the team off to a perfect start.  2 minutes later the same combination worked well to get the second goal and set us up for the rest of the game.

The gunners had a decent attack in the 5th minute but the defence backed up by Jack who dealt with the threat and cleared up well.  sax were back on the break and looking dangerous.  Kyle had a shot go just wide and the gunners defence were working hard to keep it out.  The gunners league position looks to be harsh as they seems to be well organised but they were going to have to work hard to keep Sax out today.  On 10 minutes John played a lovely ball across the box and it came to Zach who blasted the ball over the keeper to make it 3.  It is a goal that Zach will have to do well to better this year.  Rossi and Jake were brought into the game and the attacks kept coming.  Jack S cleared up an attack and played a quick ball out and Ed raced clear to complete his hat trick, what a great way to return from injury.

2 minutes later Ed was back in with another goal after a lovely ball from Kyle. 4 goals inside 20 minutes is a great way to say I am back.  The gunners made some good saves from the sax boys but on 33 minutes Ed returned the favour to John by setting up Johns 1st of the game.  The half time whistle went with sax 6-0 up.

2nd Half

The 2nd half started as we had finished with the gunners keeper having to make another save after 1 minute but unfortunately for the hardworking gunners, Finchy picked out a lovely pass to John who raced clear and done what John can if he keeps his head to get his 2nd of the game.  The gunners kept going and Jack S had more to do this week than he has for a few games.  Tom, Jack M, Finchy and Zach were working well to keep them out.  George had a good effort on 44 that went just wide.  George was trying hard to get more goals after his 3 last week but things werent going his way and he had the miss of the season when he managed to miss from 2 feet.  The keeper again denied Rossi who sometimes tries a bit too hard but after a few more games he will get back to the way he was last season, but he was causing havoc down the left with his tricks and turns.  Fish finally got his 1st goal for sax after he was set up by John who plays well on the right.  I am sure that Fish will score more but he must be relieved to get this one.  Ed was back on the pitch after he had been off for 15 minutes and was soon back in the action playing some good stuff with Jake on the right and he played a ball to George who eventually got 1 in.  Jake then set Ed for his 5th and it was all Sax on the attack when the ball did come out the defence dealt with everything that came their way and took opportunities to ge forward.  Tom was unlucky not to score and Finchy made some excellent runs to get attacks started.  John completed his hat trick after jack S got his 2nd assist of the game and then Ed rounded off the scoring with his 6th.

The league position the gunners are in seems harsh as they seem to be better than their position shows.  Well done to the sax boys for today and the 1st half of the season.  We are top now with a game in hand.  We will need to keep performing if the boys want to finish top but there is no reason why they cannnot.

Thanks to the boys for their effort this year and thanks to Karl and Tim for all their help this season so far and thanks to all the parents for bringing the boys to training on Thursdays and for turning out on Saturday mornings in all weathers to support the team.  Have a good Christmas and I will see you on the 3rd January for training at 10.30.
