Away league match played on 06 December 2008.
Kicked off at 12:00 AM

Another bright but cold morning for this away game with Suttons pitch looking good despite all the rain in the past few days.

Kyle won the toss and decided to take the Kick off, The team started well and took the game to Sutton from the whistle we won our first corner in the 2nd minute and it wasn't the best ball in that John had ever taken the ball was knocked out by the Sutton defence and was played back in to Finchy who was offside.

Sutton were on the attack and Zach who was filling in at left back made a vital tackle to finish off the attack, the boys were looking a bit unsettled by the delayed kick off but after 5 mins started to settle and play some good football. John had a shot in the 6th minute which the keeper done well to save and push wide for a corner, John put in a better corner this time and Jake headed just wide. The boys kept the pressure on and in the 10th minute John crossed a ball in from the right to put the ball on a plate for Jake to stick in the back of the net 1 - 0 to Sax. The pressure was relentless and Sutton were struggling to get out of their half and John had another shot saved by the keeper on 17. Sax won another corner on 21 and with a lovely ball in all Kyle had to do was time his run which he did to perfection and headed into the back of the net 2 - 0. On 23 Sutton got their 1st corner and with the ball not being cleared properly by the defence it dropped to the sutton number 10 who hit a brilliant shot which looped over Jack who had no chance 2 - 1. That shot gave the Sax boys a wake up that they needed to get back on top and with the boys putting the Sutton goal under pressure Connor hit a looping shot from 20 yds that was as good as the Sutton goal to restore our 2 goal lead 3 - 1. Sax kept the pressure on from the restart and on 29 the hard working John put in another ball for Jake who seemed to take an age to score his 2nd to make it 4 - 1. The score stayed like that until half time with Sax keeping the Sutton goal under pressure I am sure the Sutton boys were pleased to hear the half time whistle.

Half tme Sutton 1 - 4 Sax

2nd half

Andy came on for the 2nd half and with his 1st touch scored our 5th goal after some excellent work in midfield by Rossi who played the ball to John to get his 4th assist of the game. The boys kept going and the Sutton Keeper done well to keep the ball out, he made a good save in the 41st minute and then in the 45th John unleashed a shot that came back off the post in to the keepers arms. The Boys thought that this was going to be a game that they could all go on and score Sutton took advantage of the boys losing their shape and started to put us under pressure and they started to look dangerous. The Sutton number 10 was given far to much space and time down his right and after a quick throw he shot from outside the area to score another great goal, The same player hit the post a couple of minutes later and the Sax team were looking shaky we shuffled the boys around a bit and they started to play football again Sutton made it very difficult for us by leaving 4 at the back and were hard to get through we had several attacks but the Sutton boys held on to keep it at 5 - 2. We got a corner in the last minute and with all the boys jostling about in the area Andy got a dig in the ribs for his troubles the ref blew for full time and we were happy to take the 3 points.

The game was as hard as we had expected and credit should go to Sutton for playing the way that they did in the 2nd half. It was good to hear the opposition manager praise the way the boys played today and after last week the boys should be happy with the way that they conducted themselves. The boys listened to what Karl and I had to say in training and before the game and responded in a way that I was very happy with. We keep our unbeaten run going and are still the team that everyone wants to beat, we will have to keep working hard if we want to stay unbeaten and the boys attitude is just as important as their football.

Well done boys see you on Thursday at training ,

David
