Away cup match played on 03 October 2009.
Kicked off at 12:00 AM

The rain is still eluding the County and the pitches are still dry with not a lot of grass on them Suttons Pitch was no exception but being sandy soil at least it was not too hard, the weather was cooler than it has been and very windy.

The game started with Sax kicking into the wind and the combination of wind and a bouncy pitch made for a scrappy start to the game, Sax were making all the running and getting forward well but the Sutton defence stood strong and dealt with the Sax lads and we didn’t have any real chances in the first 15 minutes of the game. After 1 attack Sutton broke out with the ball and attacked Jacks goal the speed of the attack surprised the lads and we were lucky that the Sutton striker hit the bar, a let off for the boys and a wake up call. We had a couple of corners in quick succession that both went over the bar the wind making controlling the ball from the corners tricky. Strow done well to link up with Ed and get through on goal he hit a piledriver of a shot but the keeper was well positioned and got both hands behind it Ryan thought he should have scored but well played the keeper. Rossi had came on and was finding acres of space down the left and was causing problems straight away it wasn’t too long before the ball was played to Strow who played a lovely through ball for Rossi to run on to and slot into the corner past the keeper, Sutton 0 – 1 Sax. The boys kept pressing but Sutton did well to keep them out and keep it at the same score line until the half time whistle.

Half Time

Sutton 0 – 1 Sax

 Second Half

We were now playing with the wind behind us and the lads were encouraged to push forward and get some shots on goal as the wind was making the ball do strange things and making it tricky for the keeper. It didn’t take long for the goal to come when Strow set up Rossi again who scored with an overhead kick to make it 0 – 2. Gok was having a much better 2nd half and looking dangerous with him and Connor linking up well on 47 George broke well down the right and put in a lovely cross that hit the far post went across the lin hit the other post and came out but no-one could get the final touch to put it in the back of the net and Sutton Scrambled it away, George said it was a shot so we will take his word for that. Sax were now looking dangerous going forward and puttint the Sutton goal under a lot of pressure, a great cross from George went straight to Ed but his header went just wide, 3 minutes later George delivered another good ball but this time it went to Strow whose shot hit the post. With so much pressure on the Sutton goal it was only a matter of time before we got another 1 and on 65 Rossi completed his hat-trick after he was again set up by Strow. On 71 George played a great through ball for Strow to run on to and he seemed to take an age before he put it past the keeper. George rounded off his 2nd half display with a goal after being set up by Kyle who himself was having a great game and George scored with a half volley from the edge of the area Sutton 0 – 5 Sax.

The boys done well today in the tricky conditions and Sutton looked like a strong team who should do well this season. Kyle was given the MOM for his game today and between him and fish they ran the midfield for the majority of the game.

We have got Kirton at home in the next round and I wish Sutton all the best for the rest of the season.

Well done boys for the result and playing well in tricky conditions and for not reacting when decisions went against us.
