MAN OF THE MATCH

C.SMITH

C.SMITH had a cracking game at the back commanding his defenders throughout the game as well as scoring the goal of the game with a 25 yard pearler!!

TEAM PLAYER

L.MALCOLM

L.MALCOLM was like a busy little bee buzzing up and down the leftside of the pitch combining fantastically well with K.PODPORA destroying the opposition peppering thier goal with shots and crosses!!

Today's game marked the first ever league game played for Sinfin Moor FC and what a cracking start to the season it was!! With Manager Steve Higgins having a full team to select from he started with a 3-2-3 formation with the emphasis on attacking from the off against a strong Ilkeston FC team.

Not much was happening at the start with both teams just trying to find their feet in the game but Ilkeston FC just imposing their phyisical strength in the first 8 minutes committing five or six strong challenges resulting in fouls for our boys.

GOAL: L.HIGGINS 14 MINS

After an excellent period of play with shots from L.HIGGINS, J.HARDING, K.PODPORA and L.MALCOLM a deserved goal finally came when L.HIGGINS finished a well taken free-kick from just outside the area from a difficult angle, curling the ball just inside the far corner post to score Sinfin Moor FC's first ever league goal!!

With the confidence boost from the goal the boys were on fire with a barrage of shots and crosses on goal with the most notable shot coming from J.HARDING with a 25 yard rasper that the keeper had to tip over the bar for a corner.

HALF TIME: SINFIN MOOR FC 1 - 0 ILKESTON FC

GOAL: ILKESTON FC 37 MINS

The boys barely had time to settle for the second half when Ilkeston FC got themselves a corner and somehow managed to score after a mix up between the players at the back scrambling the ball home to make it 1 - 1.

Again with the great combination play between L.MALCOLM and K.PODPORA putting Ilkeston FC under pressure with their pass and move style Sinfin Moor FC looked like they had the bit between their teeth and were looking to re-take the lead.

GOAL: C.SMITH 43 MINS

Another goal coming from the left hand side with L.MALCOLM taking a long throw looking for K.PODPORA but with Ilkeston FC clearing the ball it fell to C.SMITH who took just one touch out of his feet and smashed the ball towards goal dropping just inside the far corner of the goal inside the post to make it 2 -1 to the home side.

GOAL: K.PODPORA 49 MINS

Now the boys were in the lead once more the rythem of play seemed to come back to us again and we soon got back in on the act when C.SMITH passed the ball to K.PODPORA who in turn swiveld to his favoured left foot and drove the ball to the top right hand corner of the goal with a sweet strke of the ball putting us 3 - 1 ahead.

K.KNIVETON-ANDERSON was unlucky late on with a couple of chances to extend Sinfin Moor FC's lead but great credit to their keeper for a couple fine saves.

FULL TIME: SINFIN MOOR FC 3 - 1 ILKESTON FC 1

SUMMARY:

A great start to the season in which both myself and paul believe is a very strong and physical Ilkeston FC side that will beat most teams in this division and will be there or thereabouts come the seasons end so to beat them is credit to our players on how hard they have worked over the summer. We seem to have assembled a strong squad for the new season where competition will be high so we all need to put maximum effort into each and every training session and matches in order for players to keep their places on the pitch. Roll on next game!!
