Smugglers Inn V Alpha United

Smugglers play host to Alpha United on the first game off the season this sunday.

With a good pre season under there belts, Smugglers come in to todays game with much confidence but this may have proven there down fall.

The smugglers started the game very slowly and were soon 0-1 down to a well taken goal for Alphas centre midfielder. The Smugglers were shell shocked but it was exactly what they need to get themselves going.

After much pressure and rattling the bar through Matty Johnston and Lyle Fowle, Smugglers levelled when the ball ball was struck on the half volley by Ben Couper. 1-1

But within 2 minutes Alpha have taken the lead again, A sliced clearence from Rhys in goal was met by Alphas centre midfielder again and he casually smashed in from 25 yards, 1-2

Second half kicks off and much like the first half chances come for Smugglers and they are unable to take them. Alpha must have thought it was there day when they took a shock 1-3 lead with a lapse im concentration in defence.

Lyle cant believe his luck today as his shot rattles the bar and on to the line and off the bar again.

With 20 minutes to play Smugglers halve the deficit to one, as Mikey Rees uses his pace to get by the left back and cuts back to Alan Flinn to tuck away neatly.

Smugglers continue to fight and hassle all over the pitch and get there just rewards. Mark Murphy throws a long ball in to the box, the defender and keeper get in each others way with allows Lyle with a simple tap in. 3-3

The game looks like its going to finish as it stand but there was still time for drama at each end. Mark Murphy sticks a leg out and Alpha are rewarded a penalty which they score and there centre midfielder grabs his hat-trick, Smugglers cant believe it. 3-4

Micheal Morrison with one last long through, delievers in to the box, again the keeper is at all ends and takes out Alan Flinn. PENALTY! Up steps Ben........ as cool as you like. 4-4 (90th min)

And there was still time for Dean Richardson to side foot the ball on to the post. OHHHHH
