Smugglers Inn Fc V Torleys AFC

14-09-2014

Todays games see's Smugglers Inn play host to Torleys AFC.

With both teams starting the season reasonably well, this was a game that they both needed to win to state their intentions for the rest of the season.

The game started much like the previous games at Myers park, slow, sloppy and sluggish. With missed placed passes through-out the the team the Smugglers couldnt manage to get out of 2nd gear for much of the first half.

This being said they had the best chances of the half. Richardson managed to take the ball from the edge of the box, gliding past the opposition and picked Bryson out at the back post for a simple tap in, but somehow Bryson fluffed his lines and dragged wide.

Next up to fluff his lines was Fowle. Torleys defence presented Fowle with a short back pass, which he ran down on goal only to shoot straight at the keeper who helped it out for a corner.

Half chances came and went for Smugglers and were soon punished. Torleys put a long ball into the box in which Murphy could only half clear to the edge of the box and the Torleys striker picked out a great finish over stand in keeper White. 0-1

HALF TIME 0-1

Smugglers started the second half with more fight are resilliance, showing particularly in the tackles from Richardson and Morrison dominating their areas off play.

The Smugglers continued to create half chances and it looked like it just wasn't going to be their day. But on the 60th minute, Smugglers won a corner which Couper delievered in to the back post for Fowle to somehow get a flick on to the ball which settled into the back off the net. 1-1

The Smugglers then freshened things up when Duffy and new boys McCall and James were introduced in to the fray. It wasnt long until the Smugglers were soon rewarded for their persistance. A well worked move down the left hand side allowed Bryson space to deliever a ball into the box, the ball missed Fowle and the last Torleys defender, giving Duffy time and space to pick his spot. 2-1

The Smugglers were not done their. They continued to harrass all over the field and playing the good football they are capable off and not giving Torleys a chance to get back into the game. The Smugglers then worked another good move down the left hand side, the ball was giving into McCalls feet and he gave a great back heel into the path of on rushing Fowle. He nipped the ball past the last defender who brought him down, PENALTY! With usual penalty taker Couper off the park, Fowle stepped up to the mark and as cooly as you like and places the balls into the bottom right hand corner. 3-1

FULL TIME 3-1
