Smugglers Inn V Coadys AFC

28-09-2014

Today’s game see’s Smugglers Inn host Coadys AFC in the Lowes Logistics League Cup 1st Round.

Both teams have started their league campaigns with different form. Smugglers have picked up 13 points where as Coadys have failed to register 1 point after 6 games.

Smugglers were looking to continue their fine form this season and seen this start to the cup as a potential to kick start a cup run. After only 5 minutes off play it was clear to see that Smugglers wanted this more than Coadys. Richardson was the first to test the goalkeeper with a 25 yard strike which looked destined for the top corner only to see the keeper get a finger tip to it to divert it for a corner.

A couple of minutes later and Smugglers had another corner. Couper delivered the ball in towards the back post which Fowle got up to meet, only to see it go straight at the keeper who was able to catch comfortably.

Another carving copy of the corner before see’s Couper deliver to the pack post and Fowle got up again to win it only to see it drop wide off the post this time.

Just their luck, Smugglers after dominating the opening 30 minutes off play found themselves a goal down. A long ball forward from Coadys caught out the back line allowing the attacker a one on one situation which he tucked away in at the front post. 0-1

It looked like it was going to be one of those days for the Smugglers and especially Fowle when he was again denied. This time Flinn managed to knock down a corner from Bryson and Fowle hooked the ball past the keeper only to see the defender clear off the line.

Two minutes later and Fowle was getting no rub of the green today. Linton with a long through was met by Flinn, flicked into the path of Fowle who turned the ball towards goal, only to see the keeper get a finger tip to it and divert it clear via the bar.

A frustrating half for the Smugglers and Flinn was the next to be thwarted to by the keeper. A well worked move by Richardson played in Couper, He drilled the ball across goal and Flinn did all he could when he stuck out a leg to connect with the ball. But again, the keeper was in the right place at the right time.

HALF TIME 0-1

Second half kicks off and its Smugglers dominating and pressing all over the park in search of the equaliser. 5 minutes in and the Coadys found themselves reduced to 10 men. After a late challenge by Girwood, Coadys player reacted by pushing him in the chest. The ref was left with no choice but to show a second yellow card to the Coadys player.

Girwood was soon to be removed from the game but by a paramedic. An ambulance had to be called when Girwood clashed heads with an opponent at a corner leaving him unconscious and shaking up. Rees comes on to replace Girwood.

After a half hour delay in play Smugglers soon found the breakthrough that they deserved. A clever back heel form Fowle played in Bryson who attacked down the left. His ball in was half cleared by the keeper which fell to Fowle on the corner of the box, he shot and after a goalmouth scramble the ball eventually fell for Richardson to smash home. 1-1

Only two minutes later and Smugglers took the advantage for the first time in the game. After quick pressing, Couper had time on the ball to slip Richardson through on goal and it never looked in doubt as he tucked away in to the bottom corner. 2-1

Deflated, Coadys knew now that the game was over as they only managed to record two shot to this point. Rees was looking sharp today and was soon involved in the third goal. He beats his man on the right wing and drives in to the box. The defender was always lagging and stuck out a lazy leg bringing Rees down. After some arguing between Linton and Couper who was going to take the penalty, Linton eventually won and stepped up and smashed the ball home. 3-1

Rees was now on the score sheet. Couper worked the ball well into space allowing Rees to use his pace to get on to the ball and drill the ball past the keeper. 4-1

There was still time on the clock for Fowle to eventually bag himself a goal. He got a tackle in on the defender and as the ball rolled just outside of the area, he got away a left footed shot away which found the bottom corner. 5-1

FULL TIME 5-1
