Legion Rovers V Smugglers Inn

12/10/2014

With Both teams getting heavily beat last week, this was a chance for both teams to restore some pride. Smugglers were looking to take another step towards promotion and Legion were looking to gain their first points of the season.

Smugglers started very brightly and were passing the ball about for fun. They won a corner after 5, Bryson delivered high in to the box only to see the midfielder blatantly stop the ball with his hand and the ref had no option to but to book him and award Smugglers a penalty. Up stepped Couper to smash the ball home. 0-1

Their lead didn’t last long. Although the ref played a big part in this as he failed to see the ball go out for a goal kick before it found its way to the Legion player who lobbed Paul in goals. 1-1

Smugglers didn’t let this slip up phase them as they pushed on and could tell this game had goals in it. Flinn was awarded a free-kick on the edge off the area and up stepped Linton to deliver the best goal off the day. He hit his shot back across the keeper which found the top corner. 1-2

Legion were finding it hard to get out off their own box never mind their own half now and it a third goal deservedly arrived for the Smugglers. A corner from Bryson was swung in and was met by Black with a bullet header that nobody was stopping. 1-3

The pressure just kept coming especially down the right hand side with Murphy and Bryson linking up well. Bryson was on the assist sheet again when he got down the right and cut back to Fowle who got his shot away, it took a slight deflection on its way and found the back off the net. 1-4

HALF TIME 1-4

Smugglers knew this game had more goals in it and goal difference might play its part come the end of the year so they pushed in the second half.

It only took five minutes before they got another. Bryson again with the assist again, crossed a deep ball into the back post in which Linton took control of it before slipping the ball in to the net. 1-5

The Ref must have been feeling sympathetic towards Legion as they were awarded a penalty for a 6/10 dive as the player through himself to the ground. The Legion captain made no mistake from the spot and reduced the deficit. 2-5

James eventually added his name to the score sheet on the 70th minute when Flinn’s scooped shot found its way to the back post, James’ anticipation was key as he found plenty space at the back to tap in to the net. 2-6

With the game coming to an end there was still time for Smugglers to get one more. With Legion’s players going forward for a corner the ball broke up field allowing Fowle to slip in James with a clear run in on goal and he made no mistake as he found the bottom corner. 2-7

Full Time 2-7
