Temple Villa FC welcomed Mountmellick United to Moate on 18 April 2026 for a cup home match that kicked off promptly at 1:00pm. The contest was scheduled for 60 minutes plus added time, with Temple Villa FC delivering a commanding 6-0 victory over their visitors.

Temple Villa lined up in a 4-2-3-1 formation, deploying Sam Mellet in goal. The defensive line consisted of Luke McCrossan at right back, Tiernan O’Shaughnessy and Dan Dwyer as central defenders, and Cian Buckley on the left. In midfield, Darragh Nee and Oliver Cooney held the central roles, tasked with both defensive cover and distribution. Ahead of them, the attacking midfield trio featured Reuben Davis on the right, Christopher Coyle centrally as the attacking midfielder, and Tom Adamson on the left, all supporting lone striker Andrew Fitzpatrick. The substitutes named were Ryan Mahon, James O’Grady, and James Dullea.

From the outset, Temple Villa pressed aggressively. Oliver Cooney tested the opposition keeper with a shot saved in the 6th minute, quickly followed by Tom Adamson’s attempt a minute later, which was also kept out. Christopher Coyle then fired an effort on goal in the 8th minute, signalling Villa’s intent early on. Cooney continued to probe with attempts at the 10th and 11th minutes, though one went high and another wide.

The breakthrough came in the 13th minute when Christopher Coyle played a short pass to Reuben Davis, who struck a close-range long-range effort with his right foot to open the scoring. Temple Villa’s dominance was evident as Andrew Fitzpatrick’s shot was saved in the 16th minute, and Luke McCrossan’s interception at the back prevented a Mountmellick chance in the 17th minute.

Cian Buckley’s wide effort in the 24th minute was followed by a second goal for Villa at 27 minutes. Tom Adamson received a short pass from the left and curled a right-footed strike from outside the box into the net. The half concluded at the 30-minute mark with Temple Villa comfortably ahead.

Early in the second half, a flurry of substitutions reshaped the team. James O’Grady replaced Christopher Coyle, Ryan Mahon came on for Andrew Fitzpatrick, and James Dullea took over from Cian Buckley, all around the 32nd minute mark. Despite these changes, Temple Villa maintained their attacking momentum as Reuben Davis had a shot saved in the 33rd minute.

Just a minute later, Tom Adamson doubled his tally, finishing from a pass by James O’Grady. O’Grady himself had a wide shot immediately after. Adamson’s influence continued with a high attempt in the 42nd minute, shortly before Andrew Fitzpatrick was reintroduced for Oliver Cooney. Christopher Coyle also returned to the field, replacing Tiernan O’Shaughnessy.

Reuben Davis and Darragh Nee both had high attempts in the 44th and 45th minutes respectively, showing Villa’s relentless pressure. At 46 minutes, Adamson completed his hat-trick, converting a short pass from Fitzpatrick with a right-footed finish inside the box.

Tom Adamson was then substituted off for Cian Buckley in the 50th minute, who quickly made an impact. In the 51st minute, Andrew Fitzpatrick scored from close range inside the box, assisted by a long pass from Christopher Coyle, extending the lead further.

James O’Grady’s shot was saved in the 53rd minute, and Christopher Coyle had two saved attempts at 55 and 58 minutes. Buckley’s effort went wide at 58 minutes, but he redeemed himself by scoring the final goal of the match in the 59th minute. Assisted by James O’Grady’s short pass, Buckley finished with his left foot from close range inside the box to seal a comprehensive 6-0 victory.

Throughout the match, Temple Villa FC showcased clinical finishing and solid defensive work, leaving Mountmellick United unable to respond. The tactical deployment of the 4-2-3-1 formation allowed Villa to control midfield and create numerous chances, which they ruthlessly converted. The substitutions injected fresh energy and maintained the attacking threat, culminating in a dominant cup performance on home soil.
