Tiki Taka Dortmund travelled to top of the table Pennington Lions today on the 21st March for an away league match kicking off at 10:30am. With the sun finally shining, Dortmund secured a hard-fought 3-2 win over Pennington Lions in a 70-minute contest plus added time. The match was officiated by referee Nathan and featured an intense battle between two determined sides.

Tiki Taka Dortmund lined up in a classic 4-3-3 formation, deploying Kamsy Anajemba in goal. The back four consisted of Brajan Staszkowicz at right defender, Archie Hunt and Lawrence Nwakamma as central defenders, and Nathen Platt on the left. The midfield trio featured Noah Rule on the right, Zac Leach centrally, and Zac Humphries-Deveney on the left. Up front, the attacking trio was Sonic Leung on the right, Favour Ajumobi leading as striker, and Yasin Mohammed on the left. This setup was designed to balance defensive solidity with wide attacking options and a central focal point in attack. The substitutes available were Ayo Bamgboye, Andrew-Franz Nkemka, Kain Woodside, and Oscar Manders.

From the outset, Tiki Taka Dortmund showed intent with early key passes. Nathen Platt delivered a nice through ball to release Yasin down the left wing, unfortunately his cross was well defended and headed clear. This early attack signalling Dortmund’s attacking threat down the flanks. Defensively, Archie Hunt was alert early on, clearing a dangerous situation in the third minute to prevent a Pennington Lions chance. Brajan Staszkowicz also made a crucial tackle in the sixth minute, helping to stifle the hosts’ advances.

Noah Rule’s long pass in the eighth minute set Favour free but unfortunately he was unable to get a shot off. Dortmund’s breakthrough came just two minutes later, Favour Ajumobi rose highest to head home a close-range goal from a corner, expertly assisted by Noah’s delivery. This early goal gave Dortmund the lead and momentum. Archie Hunt continued to be a defensive rock, blocking a shot in the 13th minute and Lawrence Nwakamma made a vital tackle two minutes later to maintain control.

Brajan Staszkowicz contributed offensively with a good run down the right and then a nice pass in the 17th minute, but the move broke down before creating anything to trouble Pennington. Dortmund made double substitutions at the 18th minute mark. Andrew-Franz Nkemka replaced the goal scorer Ajumobi, while Ayo Bamgboye came on for Nathen Platt. These changes suggested a tactical tweak or response to early exertions.

Yasin Mohammed remained influential down the left wing, delivering another dangerous cross in the 24th minute that created a chance, though Andrew-Franz Nkemka’s subsequent attempt at goal went high. The 25th minute saw further substitutions as Kain Woodside and Oscar Manders replaced Zac Humphries-Deveney and Brajan Staszkowicz respectively, indicating a reshuffle in both defence and midfield.

Goalkeeper Kamsy Anajemba was called into action with a sharp dive at the feet of an opponent in the 26th minute, followed by a confident catch of a cross six minutes later. Zac Leach came close to doubling Dortmund’s lead when his long range free kick hit the crossbar in the 28th minute. However, an injury forced another change at the 30th minute, with Brajan Staszkowicz returning to the field to replace Archie Hunt in central defence.

As the first half drew to a close, Oscar Manders cleared a dangerous ball in the 33rd minute, helping to keep Dortmund’s lead intact. The half ended at the 35th minute mark with Dortmund ahead 1-0.

The second half began with Kamsy Anajemba producing a full-stretch save in the 40th minute, keeping Dortmund in front. A flurry of substitutions in the 45th minute saw Zac Humphries-Deveney, Favour Ajumobi, Nathen Platt, and Archie Hunt all return to the pitch, replacing Kain Woodside, Sonic Leung, Oscar Manders, and Ayo Bamgboye respectively, restoring some of the original starting XI’s rhythm.

Dortmund extended their lead in the 48th minute when Yasin Mohammed tapped in from close-range following an error from the Pennington keeper, after spilling a cross from Favour Ajumobi. Archie Hunt intercepted a threat immediately after, demonstrating his defensive awareness. However, the game’s intensity did not wane as Kain Woodside replaced Noah Rule in the 50th minute to bring some fresh legs into midfield.

Zac Humphries-Deveney tested the opposition goalkeeper with a saved attempt in the 51st minute, while Lawrence Nwakamma made a crucial tackle a minute later. Yasin Mohammed’s effort went high in the 54th minute, but Pennington Lions responded with a goal of their own in the 56th minute, narrowing the deficit.

Dortmund made further substitutions at the 58th minute, with Sonic Leung and Noah Rule returning to replace Favour Ajumobi and Andrew-Franz Nkemka respectively. Sonic Leung’s shot was well saved in the 60th minute, and shortly after, goalkeeper Anajemba was booked for a questionable handball outside his area in the 61st minute.

Pennington Lions continued to press for the equaliser and it paid off in the 63rd minute when they broke through the midfield and scored to level the match at 2-2. Dortmund reacted swiftly, bringing on Ayo Bamgboye for Zac Humphries-Deveney in the 64th minute. Brajan Staszkowicz and Lawrence Nwakamma combined defensively with crucial tackles and clearances in the 65th minute to repel the opposition’s advances.

Zac Leach and Kain Woodside also contributed defensively with a header and tackle respectively in the 67th minute. The decisive moment came in the 68th minute when Noah Rule scored inside the box, finishing a cross from Yasin Mohammed with his right foot to restore Dortmund’s lead at 3-2.

Substitutions followed quickly with Andrew-Franz Nkemka and Oscar Manders replacing Noah Rule and Nathen Platt respectively in the 69th minute. Defensive efforts from Nkemka and Bamgboye in the 70th minute, including a tackle and clearance, helped secure the victory.

Brajan Staszkowicz’s all-round performance, combining defensive resilience and attacking support, earned him the player of the match accolade. Tiki Taka Dortmund’s tactical flexibility and determination ultimately saw them edge past Pennington Lions in a pulsating encounter. Well done boy's ??
