Tiki Taka Dortmund hosted Swinton Tigers at St James's High School on 28 March 2026, with a 9:00am kick-off in a cup tie that ended 1-1 after 70 minutes. The match proceeded to a penalty shootout where Swinton Tigers triumphed 3-1, eliminating Dortmund from the competition.
Tiki Taka Dortmund lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, deploying Kamsy Anajemba in goal. The defensive line consisted of Brajan Staszkowicz at right back, Archie Hunt and Ayo Bamgboye as central defenders, and Nathen Platt on the left. The midfield trio featured Noah Rule on the right, Zac Leach centrally, and Zac Humphries-Deveney on the left. Up front, the attacking trio was Sonic Leung on the right wing, Favour Ajumobi leading as striker, and Yasin Mohammed on the left wing. The substitutes available were Mustafa, Seka Sewagudde, Andrew-Franz Nkemka, Oscar Manders, Kain Woodside, and Finley Barlow.
From the outset, Dortmund’s defence was tested early. Archie Hunt made a crucial interception in the fourth minute to deny a clear chance, setting the tone for a tight contest. Brajan Staszkowicz followed up with a solid tackle two minutes later, helping to quell Swinton’s early pressure. Goalkeeper Anajemba was alert in the eighth minute, comfortably catching a dangerous cross to maintain the clean sheet.
Brajan Staszkowicz again demonstrated his defensive prowess with another well-timed tackle in the 16th minute. Shortly after, Zac Leach orchestrated an attacking move with a precise long pass in the 18th minute, creating a promising chance for Dortmund’s forwards. However, the first quarter of the match saw a flurry of substitutions at the 20-minute mark as Mustafa replaced Zac Humphries-Deveney, Seka Sewagudde came on for Yasin Mohammed, and Andrew-Franz Nkemka took over from Favour Ajumobi, signalling tactical adjustments from the home side.
Defensively, Ayo Bamgboye made a vital tackle in the 23rd minute to prevent another Swinton opportunity, while substitute Seka Sewagudde contributed with a key tackle three minutes later. Further changes followed with Oscar Manders replacing Nathen Platt and Kain Woodside coming on for Sonic Leung at the half-hour mark. Unfortunately, an injury forced another reshuffle when Favour Ajumobi came off for Archie Hunt in the 32nd minute.
The first half concluded at 35 minutes, with the score goalless. Immediately after the break, Archie Hunt was reinstated in defence as Favour Ajumobi made way in the 36th minute. Hunt then had a shot saved in the 40th minute, showing intent to influence the game offensively. Another substitution saw Yasin Mohammed return for Seka Sewagudde in the 45th minute.
The deadlock was broken in the 48th minute when Swinton Tigers found the net, taking the lead early in the second half. Dortmund responded with urgency; Zac Leach’s effort from a free kick was saved in the 51st minute, with the follow up shot cleared off the line by the Swinton defender. Substitutions continued with Zac Humphries-Deveney replacing Andrew-Franz Nkemka and Favour Ajumobi coming on for Archie Hunt again in the 53rd minute. Nathen Platt also returned to the left-back position, replacing Kain Woodside two minutes later.
A pivotal moment arrived in the 56th minute when Anajemba produced a crucial penalty save to keep Dortmund in the contest. Two minutes on, Noah Rule capitalised on a long kick from Kamsy, which the defence failed to deal with and Noah slotting home inside the box with his right foot to level the score at 1-1. The match intensified as Finley Barlow replaced Brajan Staszkowicz in the 60th minute, and Zac Leach continued to create chances, delivering another incisive long pass in the 61st minute.
Defensively, Barlow cleared a dangerous ball in the 63rd minute, preventing a Swinton chance, while Ayo Bamgboye made another important tackle in the 65th minute. Favour Ajumobi’s shot was spilled by the keeper in the 64th minute but unfortunately no one was alert enough to get to the lose ball. Shortly after in the 65th minute Favour made way for Sonic Leung to return to the field, maintaining Dortmund’s attacking threat.
Despite numerous efforts, neither side could find a winner in normal time, leading to a penalty shootout.
Swinton Tigers prevailed 3-1 winners in the shootout with some well taken penalties, ending Dortmund’s cup run.
Seka Sewagudde was named player of the match for his defensive contributions and tireless work on the flank with his direct running and pace.
In a tightly contested cup tie, Tiki Taka Dortmund showed resilience and attacking intent but ultimately fell short in the shootout against a determined Swinton Tigers side.
The lads should hold their heads high and be proud of their performance today, they went toe to toe with a team 2nd in the league above us and only lost on penalties.
Mentions also need to go to Ayo Bamgboye, who did a great job stepping into defence today.
Mustafa, who was strong in midfield and Brajan Staszkowicz, who made some great runs when switched to right wing.
Well done too everyone today????
