Tingley Athletic U15s Green hosted Churwell Lions U15 White at the Tingley Athletic U7 Titans ground on the morning of 8 March 2026, with kick-off at 9:00am. The league encounter, played over 80 minutes plus added time, ended in a 4-1 defeat for the home side. Despite a spirited start to the game, Tingley found themselves outclassed by a clinical Churwell Lions side.

Tingley Athletic lined up in a 4-3-2-1 formation, aiming to balance defensive solidity with attacking support. Josh Shepherd took his place between the sticks as goalkeeper, protected by a back four consisting of Anthony Dobke at right back, Alfie Chalkley and Eli Dexter as central defenders, and Sam Richardson covering the left-back position. The midfield trio featured Harley-Jay Eastwood on the right, Abdul Ali centrally, and Lucas Kinder on the left, tasked with both defensive duties and linking play forward. Ahead of them, Harry Allman and Kieran Bamforth operated as right and left attacking midfielders respectively, supporting lone striker Abhi Manda. The substitutes named were Luke Wilson, Jayden Day, and Kaden Munder.

The match began with Tingley showing intent, as Abdul Ali forced an early save in the 7th minute, testing the opposition goalkeeper with a well-struck effort. Almost simultaneously, Kieran Bamforth attempted a shot that flew high over the bar, signalling the home side’s early attacking ambition. Three minutes later, Abhi Manda also saw his effort saved, indicating Tingley’s willingness to press forward despite the visitors’ defensive organisation.

However, the first goal came against Tingley in the 19th minute when Churwell Lions capitalised on a close-range tap-in. The home defence was under pressure, but Eli Dexter’s timely clearance prevented a further chance immediately after, showing his defensive awareness and commitment. The visitors’ early breakthrough set the tone for the remainder of the half.

At the 25-minute mark, Tingley made their first substitution, with Luke Wilson replacing Harley-Jay Eastwood on the right midfield. Shortly after, goalkeeper Josh Shepherd produced a sharp dive at the feet of an onrushing attacker, denying Churwell a clear chance and keeping his side in the contest. Ten minutes later, Jayden Day came on for Abdul Ali, signalling a tactical tweak in midfield as Tingley sought to regain control.

Churwell Lions extended their lead just before half-time, converting a penalty in the 39th minute to make it 2-0. The visitors’ clinical finishing was proving costly for Tingley, who went into the break facing a significant deficit.

The second half began with a bright moment for Tingley as Kieran Bamforth scored immediately after the restart, converting an assist from the returning Abdul Ali in the 46th minute. This goal offered a glimmer of hope and demonstrated the attacking potential of the home side’s creative midfielders.

Despite this, Churwell Lions remained dominant. Josh Shepherd made a confident catch in the 58th minute to deny another attempt, but the visitors found the net again in the 63rd minute, restoring their two-goal advantage. At the same time, Tingley made their final substitution with Kaden Munder replacing Sam Richardson at left back, aiming to shore up the defence.

Shepherd continued to impress with a full-stretch save in the 71st minute, keeping Tingley’s hopes alive. Unfortunately, the visitors scored again in the same minute, extending their lead to 4-1. Tingley’s attempts to respond were limited, with Kieran Bamforth firing wide in the 74th minute, reflecting the difficulty the home side faced in breaking down a well-organised defence.

Eli Dexter stood out throughout the match, his defensive efforts preventing an even heavier defeat and earning him the player of the match accolade. Despite the disappointing result, Tingley Athletic U15s Green showed moments of promise and will look to build on this experience in their upcoming fixtures.
