Afternoon lads,

Everyone still buzzing? I know I am!!!!

Report below:

Chaps what a day, was it vintage? Absolutely not, did we find a way to win the game. We did & you made history for the club, the first independent academy to win the Kent County Cup at any age group.. what an achievement!

The game itself, I felt we settled really well to be fair & we were causing real problems down the left with Bailey & Doniel, you were linking brilliantly well & you had the beating of the right back time and time again Bailey, very direct!

The big moment in the first half lads was the chance we missed to go 1-0 up, great work from Max & somehow between Lemar & Kai, we didn’t manage to force it over the line, I think if we score that we go on to win the game comfortably but they managed to somehow scramble it off the line.

They did not look threatening at all, but I think we got caught under a long pass! Remember what we spoke about in training lads, we react and either jump or drop based off body language, quality of pass & pressure on the ball, we got this wrong as a unit and the ball dropped in behind, great save from Oscar & we didn’t react to it.

In cup finals goals change momentum & that gave Kings Hill something to hang on too going into half time.

We spoke at half time about moving the ball quickly, too often it was too many touches in central areas & I felt you were coming way to deep to get on the ball Lemar, we want you playing on shoulders, I do not feel we asked enough questions of them defensively & although I felt we had the lion share of the ball we were quite predictable at times, but as we spoke about winning cup finals are HARD & Kings Hill were never going to roll out the red carpet for you.

Noah well done when you come on, I asked about you being the man to create something for us and you certainly did, great reaction as it isn’t easy not starting in a Final, but I felt we needed to set up & have a good strong defensive shape first half & as the game opened up it would be made for you!

The second half we huffed and puffed lads, the emotion of the day, wanting so desperately to find that equaliser is hard, but as you have so many times this season now & on the run to the final, found a way to dig something out, a wonderful cross/pass from Noah & a great header from the Skipper, you have a habit of scoring very important goals Bailey, top players have a habit of doing this.. well done!

After that lads the game was very open, two teams trying to win it before the shootout & we both without having anything clear cut had moments to win it but we defended brilliantly, I thought you both were tremendous Theo and Billy, what a partnership you have formed this season.

The shootout.. there’s a reason we have practiced for the past 6 months on them on a Thursday/Friday, we had our list of takers set well before the day itself & all of you delivered & set up the moment for Oscar to be the hero, what a save and what a moment for you mate, it will live long in the memory for us all!

Drink it in chaps, it’s a wonderful feeling.

BUT we still have some very important league fixtures coming up and have objectives we want to reach in our campaign so let’s finish strong after enjoying this moment!

See you all on Friday 10th for training
