Home league match played on 31 January 2009.
Kicked off at 11:30 AM

The Warriors started the match strongly, attacking the Knights goal but Choularton was at hand to clear the danger away for a corner.  Hooper cleared the ball from the corner, releasing Komboni up-field; Komboni then passed to Holloway who made a bee-line for the Warriors goal, but his effort was well saved by the Warriors keeper.  A few minutes later the Knights were awarded a corner, Holloway took, sending the ball into the Warriors area; the ball rebounded out and Powell was just unable to direct his shot on target.  Powell and Komboni then combined to mount an attack down the wing; however, Komboni was fouled, free-kick Knights.  As the kick was taken, the Warriors intercepted and launched an attack of their own, putting the Knights defence of Greenaway, Choularton and Courtnage under pressure.  The Warriors managed to fire in a shot on goal but Tadd, the Knights keeper collected the ball safely.  Powell then took the ball and made his way forward, using good individual skills; he rounded a couple of defenders before having his effort deflected for a corner.  The corner was dealt with by the Warriors and a quick attack soon came; a long range effort by the Warriors saw the ball bounce off the bar, and Tadd quickly gathered.  Choularton, Holloway, Doel and Powell passed the ball between themselves, steadily making their way towards the Warriors goal, but the final shot by Doel went just wide.  The Knights kept up the pressure and were rewarded with a throw-in near the Warriors penalty area.  Komboni took, sending the ball into the danger zone, Powell was the 1st to react, seizing the opportunity to fire home the Knights opening goal.  From the re-start, the Knights challenged for the ball and won, Courtnage eased around a defender before releasing Holloway; without hesitation Holloway fired goal-ward but just too high and the ball drifted over the bar.  With only minutes remaining in the half, the Knights were awarded a corner; Holloway struck a good ball into the area and Doel rose high into the air, heading home the Knights 2nd goal, just as the half time whistle blew.

The Warriors applied the pressure at the beginning of the 2nd half, which was to be expected, but the Knights rallied to stop them.  Hooper, Doel, Komboni and Holloway then combined to force the play into the Warriors half, resulting in Holloway’s shot being well saved.  Komboni later fired a long ball forward for Holloway to chase by the Warriors defence dealt with the danger well.  As the Knights mounted yet another attack, Holloway and Powell edged their way goal-ward, with Powell passing through the defence for Holloway; his struck the ball towards goal but this deflected for a corner.  Holloway again took, sending the ball high into the penalty area; confusion in the box and Courtnage pounced, slotting home the Knights 3rd of the match.  It was then one-way traffic, with attack after attack by the Knights, with shots from Powell, Doel and Holloway all being well saved by the Warriors keeper.  Hooper even got in on the act, but his effort deflected just past the post, corner Knights.  Holloway again placed the ball and fired it into the danger zone; the Warriors keeper saw the ball late and could do nothing, as the ball struck him on the chest and rebounded into the goal, 4-0 Knights.  This didn’t stop the Warriors from attacking but the Knights held strong, stopping them time and time again until the final whistle blew.  This was one of the best games the Knights had played, with each team member playing their part, but Powell stood out from the crowd as he worked tirelessly throughout the match, in attack and defence, and was therefore awarded man of the match.
