Home cup match played on 20 October 2012.
Kicked off at 10:30 AM

4 minutes extra time played.

The first round of the League Cup was a unbeaten Wolves & Perton team hosting  Sandwell United flying high in Division One. The game started off with both teams showing their intentions with a couple of attacks each. The deadline was broken after around 4 minutes when a great pass from Ste Worley set up Dean Peddie as he broke from midfield and slotted home passed the keeper for his first goal for Wolves & Perton. 1-0.

The next 30 minutes belonged to Wolves & Perton as they found their stride and pressed for more goals. A corner from Ste somehow made its way through to Luke Werhun, who slotted home from about a yard to double the home sides’ lead 2-0.

Wolves & Perton were now looking confident, and after some more good midfield work, Wolves & Perton were awarded a free kick on the right, the ball again whipped in by Ste, onto the head of Luke who calmly headed past the keeper to score his second of the game 3-0.

Wolves & Perton’s fourth goal came after some solo work from Dean, as he managed to get to the edge of the opposition area and played a delightful chip onto Luke’s head who again was able to head past the keeper to complete his hat trick. 4-0.

With half time approaching Wolves had limited Sandwell to only a couple of chances, Wolves & Perton were then awarded a corner, and once again the ball was bent in by Ste to the back post, where Nat Lodge was on hand to put the home side  five nil up. 5-0

This was by far the best half of the season from Wolves & Perton, although it was slightly marred when an accidental slip of the tongue from Mike Hateley, as he fell over, led to him been given a straight red from the referee. This was very unfortunate, but we are all aware of the rules of the game.

HT - The half time whistle blew, and the score line was more than a fair representation of Wolves & Perton dominance.

Sandwell United started the second half brightly, and seemed to have a new lease of life and buoyed by the home side only having 10 men. Sandwell  scored within the first 5 minutes of the half when Greg Lloyd slotted home past the wolves keeper. 5-1.

This again seemed to make Sandwell United burst into life and show the form which sees them sitting at the top end of Division One. They were making use of the extra man, and after a free kick was delivered into the Wolves penalty area Michael Spence was on hand to head past the GK  5-2.

Wolves & Perton looked a little nervy over the next  five minutes, after a  couple of tactical changes in the formation, Wolves & Perton looked more comfortable and they extended their lead when a fith cross from Ste was met in the area and Andy Page used the pace to flick the ball off his back into the goal 6-2.

The rest of the game was end to end, with Wolves & Perton may be thinking they could of had a couple more goals on the counter attack. Wolves & Perton saw out the game to progress to the next round of the cup.

All in all it was a fantastic result for the home side, who remain unbeaten in both league and cup. We will be looking to push on from this result and hopefully more of the same to come.

Good luck to Sandwell for the rest of the year.
