Woolston Rovers Thundercats hosted Penlake U12 Diamonds at Birchwood Community High School on the morning of 1 March 2026, with kick-off at 7:00am. In a 9-a-side league encounter lasting 60 minutes plus added time, the Thundercats were defeated 6-2 in a match that saw Penlake dominate proceedings. The referee delivered an impeccable performance, ensuring the game flowed smoothly in front of a crowd of 30 spectators.

Woolston Rovers lined up in a 3-2-3 formation, deploying three defenders at the back: Emily Ball on the right, Isabella Charnley centrally, and Izzy Acklam-Davies on the left. The midfield duo consisted of Ruby Lawton and Martha Darnton, tasked with both defensive cover and linking play forward. Up front, the attacking trio featured Lyla Carr on the right, Robyn Wilkinson leading as striker, and Amelia Searle on the left. Tilly Rex started in goal. Woolston finally found a breakthrough in the 36th minute when Lexie Davies scored, assisted by Ruby Lawton, offering a glimmer of hope. Shortly after, goalkeeper Amelia Searle made a crucial penalty save in the 39th minute, preventing further damage. However, Penlake remained a threat and scored once more in the 48th minute.

The Thundercats managed to reduce the deficit in the 54th minute when Lyla Carr scored, assisted again by Ruby Lawton, bringing the score to 6-2. Despite their efforts, Woolston could not find any more goals before the final whistle.

Martha Darnton, Lyla Carr, and Robyn Wilkinson were recognised as players of the match for their determined performances in a challenging fixture. Penlake U12 Diamonds’ clinical finishing and sustained pressure proved decisive in this league encounter at Birchwood.
