Braintree Sporting Football Club was founded in 1977 by a group of local football enthusiasts. The club initially played in the Braintree and District Sunday League, before moving up to the Braintree and North Essex Sunday League in 1980.

The club has won the Braintree and North Essex Sunday League title on four occasions, in 1990, 1992, 2000 and 2018. They have also reached the final of the Essex Sunday Cup on three occasions, in 1991, 1993 and 2018.
