The club was founded in 1972 by a group of friends who met at work. They started out playing in local amateur leagues, but eventually worked their way up to the Manchester AFL.
Cowgills have won the Manchester AFL championship on three occasions, in 1999, 2002, and 2010. They have also won the Manchester AFL cup on two occasions, in 2001 and 2009.
The club's home ground is Cowgills Park, which is located in the Chorlton area of Manchester. The ground has a capacity of around 1,000 spectators.
