The club was founded in 1997 as Elmore Eagles L.F.C. and changed their name to Exeter City Women in 2009. They have won the Devon Women's League on four occasions and the FA Women's National League South West Division One on one occasion.
The club's home ground is Exwick Sports Hub in Exeter. They train at the Cliff Hill Training Ground on a Thursday evening from 7pm to 9pm.
The club's current manager is Abbie Britton, who was appointed in 2019. She is assisted by Aaron Wakely.
