Burghfield Blues 2 vs 1 Binfield Lions U10

<p>Another excellent Lions performance saw them again lose 2-1 to one of best teams in the division; after last seasons great run it was out at the 1st attempt this year although it wasnt through lack of effort! <p>From the outset it was apparent that the Lions meant business this week; EBYFL pitting them against a strong Burghfield side in the 2nd round of the cup - with the opposition sitting top of the league this was always going to be a tough game. &nbsp;However, cup games can be great levellers and it was the Lions who started strongest and immediately put the hosts on the back foot, a few chances came up with Rory clipping the bar in the opening 10 mins. &nbsp;As the Lions went for the goal we left ourselves vulnerable at the back and Burghfield hit us with a classic counter attack when at one point Jack was faced by 3 - Burghfield took the chance well from a tight angle and somehow took the lead. &nbsp;The goal was regrettable but certainly not as bad as the 2nd Burghfield goal which immediately followed, we took the centre, lost the ball and the player waltzed through the midfield and defence unchallenged. So after being on top from the start the Lions found themselves 2 down in the opening 10 minutes, in fairness their heads never dropped when after suffering a 4-0 drubbing a few weeks back it would have been easy to? A great break from Rory saw him bought down on the edge of the box and OH sent over a cross shot where TJ nodded the ball across the keeper and into the goal, 2-1 back in the game! <p> <p>For the rest of the half it was pretty much all Binfield as other than the Burghfield #8 they didnt look dangerous, an excellent through ball from Harry saw Harvey race away past the 2 Burghfield defenders to get to the ball before the keeper, he hit a 1st time shot and somehow the keeper managed to get his feet on it and deflect it for a corner. &nbsp;Minutes later another long ball saw Harvey use his pace to beat the defender and took it past the keeper and thumped his drive against the crossbar. &nbsp;How it stayed 2-1 at half time is a mystery? <p>With the Lions playing downhill in the 2nd half we went for pace again upfront with Ollie having a run at them but we never really created anything for him to chase so another reshuffle was made to search for the deserved equaliser and then probable winner. &nbsp;Rory switched flanks and OH dropped out wide to give us better possession with TJ &amp; Harry pulling the strings in the middle, Jack &amp; Joe seemed pretty comfortable. &nbsp;A great break where Rory played to Harvey who inturn crossed for OH was just intercepted which would have been a great goal, Harvey had another attempt clip the outside of the post, the possession was all ours and we just couldnt get the goal our play deserved. &nbsp;On a different day we might have scored a hatful and on another day we might get some of the decisions go our way? &nbsp; <p>A great effort from the team and some of the Burghfield parents said that we were the best team that they had played this season, next week we travel to Bracknell Town hoping to avenge the defeat from a few weeks back. <p>Well played lads.
