Binfield Lions 5 vs 4 AFC Charvil

<p>Sorry for the delay in publishing this and sorry for the probable inaccuracies but my memory isn&rsquo;t what it used to be! <p>The 1st 2 quarters (or 1st half in old money) was largely forgettable and littered with uncharacteristic mistakes in which a lively AFC Charvil side raced into a deserved 2-goal lead; this could have been more if not for poor finishing and the woodwork. <p>At 3-0 down at half time we decided to &lsquo;go for it&rsquo; and threw caution to the wind and risk getting a right pasting in the process, so we swiftly adjusted the system to play with wing backs and a solitary defender.&nbsp; The boys came flying out of the traps and seemed a completely different side, the boys were competing in the tackles and passes were finally reaching destination, we got a foot back in the game when Harvey poked a loose ball home from 10 yards after some dangerous crosses, 1-3.&nbsp; It was hoped that we would kick on but late in the 3rd quarter Charvil extended their lead when finishing neatly after a decent move, 1-4. <p>Going into the final quarter most teams would have played out the remaining minutes with little fuss or expectation but thankfully this Lions team has some real fight in them and immediately added to their tally with another goal mouth scramble in which Harvey finished following some neat work by Zac &amp; TJ, 2-4.&nbsp; Immediately the boys sensed an improbable come back as tackles were flying in and momentum was with us, Charvil rarely venturing out of their half.&nbsp; Several corners and crosses were fired across the goal and went agonisingly close until after another Harry S corner a Charvil player headed into his own net, 3-4 with about 8 minutes to play.&nbsp; Almost immediately we created further chances as fitness and desire became the most important ingredients, Zac finished off another Lions onslaught and got the deserved equaliser, 4-4.&nbsp; <p>From then on in with 5 minutes left you could sense that there would only be 1 winner, the question was if we had enough time to get it?&nbsp; As the game approached conclusion a final gamble paid off when we played 3 up front with the height of Ryan &amp; Harry W to cause problems and it paid off when Harry W calmly dispatched a drive into the bottom corner in front of his former teammates and coaches from the Panthers as well as several other who had been caught up in the game &ndash; 1 parent (not connected to Binfield or AFC Charvil) and said he would pay to see that every week over the Premier League (except he didn&rsquo;t part with any cash)! <p>A great morning entertainment and in the end nothing more than they deserved but we need to tighten up as we can&rsquo;t give many teams a 3-0 start and expect to win games, fitness was a factor as the game progressed and thankfully those that had turned up for the additional sessions seemed to benefit from them. <p>MOM was Ryan who is not only very useful at the back he can be a real asset up front with his pace, power, height and surprisingly quick feet (ala Peter Crouch).&nbsp; Well done Ryan.
