West Byfleet 1 vs 3 Binfield Lions

In a game that was supposed to be played at home alot of credit should be given to the parents for allowing the reversed fixture to one of the furthest trips in the league - all the team were reminded of this before the match!!   This weeks match report is by; Rob Mack.   The game started with both our defence players starting on the Subs Bench! This helped confuse the opposition, the parents and some players just long enough for OH to make a fantastic strike at goal; the keeper was just unable to hold the ball; which bounced towards the waiting TJ who slide tackled the ball, Ninja style to make sure it was in the back of the net! Lions 1 Up in the 1st 2 minutes!   West Byfleet came back on a Mission, with some great interceptions by Bobby and Hazza, pushing the ball up to Harvey and Ollie; Who were  flying back down the wings, with some great passing to OH and TJ up front. We had a great game of football on our hands!   After 5 minutes, West Byfleet had a good strike at Goal, but Joe had it well covered. We counter attacked with Olly down the wing, leading to a sneaky strike at goal by OH, duly saved by the STIG…. Who initiated another attack at us, this time leading to an awesome high ball in our top corner. Lions 1 J, West Byfleet 1 L   West B continued the pressure; we had some brilliant defending by CAM, TJ and Joe, who  made another great save, backed up with Jack, taking the ball from our goal and delivering it to back up to the half way line, pursued by angry WB strikers! Another WB counter attack seen Cam perform another of his spectacular intercept and block moves, denying another shot at goal!   OH Cleared the ball from a corner, passing to TJ, who crossed the ball to Jack, who sprinted to take another shot at goal, which was saved and blasted back to the half way line!   Hazza and Bobby re-joined the fray up front and almost immediately the pair were in the Box testing WB’s keeper and defence. We had an awesome play where Harvey intercepted the ball, skilled past the attacker, pushed the ball to OH on the right wing who skilled past the defender and had a great shot; sadly saved; Bobby volleyed the rebound; again saved!; the goalie dove for dear life to stop Harvey scoring from the second rebound! This was excellent to see! We had 3 players in the box, all in goal scoring positions! Sooooo Close!   Harvey and Bobby had another run at goal; a defender put the ball out for a corner; which was taken so quickly; that before I could tell the Goalie’s dad, we had taken the corner already; Hazza had made a Perfect Cross, to be Perfectly headed into the back of the net by OH!  Lions 2 – WB 1! A Fabulous Goal, An outstanding Set Piece! All credits to Ryan on this one!   Shortly afterwards, OH lobbed a ball to Bobby, who dove into the box, did a ballerina twirl that dazzled 3 defenders and the Goalie, then unleashed a blaster into the back of the net. Lions 3 -  WB 1   This was a Fabulous Game of Football! We played as a Team, Every single player played like a Champion! We had awesome defending, from Joe, to Midfield; When we were defending, we were attacking; we were doing it as a team; getting back to help out and not just leaving it to somebody else. When we were on the attack, we went forward as a team; we got to the box and gave each other options, and so, so, very important; we helped draw defenders away from our attacking players!   After Last week’s result against Ascot Aces, The Lions can take great pride in this win!   MOM; Bobby   A Special thanks to West Byfleet, who also played some fantastic football!!, also to the Ref, the Coaches and Managers and Parents for all their support.   Ps., The author has since been informed that our Dynamo Defenders were being rested for the 1st session due to having played a Fantastic game against Ascot without being subbed.
