Binfield Lions 3 vs 2 Pinewood

In the previous Lions v Pinewood match, the Lions had ended Pinewood’s cup challenge, so we knew they would be out for revenge. Pinewood has 4 or 5 Academy players who are known good finishers and needed to be treated with great respect.   In the first minutes of the match we had a run down the Wing by OH, a prompt counter attack by Pinewood, resulting in an interception by Bobby, save by Joe and Clearance by TJ; which put OH back with another run at Pinewoods defence; a Goal Kick and they were Counter Attacking, intercepted by CAM; Pushed back up by Ollie, OH and Hazza was blasting a shot at their Goal! Then OH with strike at Goal saved again by the keeper and cleared by a defender, giving us a corner…. OH took the corner, a deflection from a defender gave TJ a fantastic shot and he hit a brilliant left footer into the back of the net! Binfield 1 – Pinewood 0   The pressure continued with Pinewood attacking and being thwarted by Jack, CAM, Ollie and Joe; pushing the ball back up to OH, Hazza and Harvey who were piling on the pressure. Hazza made a great pass to OH, who chipped the ball back to Hazza who was unlucky not to score; the Ball was cleared for Ollie to take another shot at Goal; again cleared for OH to blast it past the keeper! Fantastic Football! Binfield 2 – Pinewood 0   Pinewood came back on the attack and soon Joe made another good save, with Harvey coming back to mark their left winger who had sneaked in to try and collect the cross. Hazza gave a skill demonstration, going past a few Pinewood players and planting a third goal solidly in the back of the net. Binfield 3 – Pinewood 0   In the 2nd Half, we started played a more defensive game, defending in our half, rather than stretching out Pinewood, pushing the ball up to our forwards. We soon conceded a free kick that resulted in a Pinewood player getting a good shot at goal from close range. Binfield 3 – Pinewood 1   The Lions went back on the Offensive with OH, Harvey and Bobby coming close to scoring a 4th a few times. With a long ball Goal kick, one of Pinewood Strikers managed connect with a good cross into our box to score a second goal, again blasting at close range. Binfield 3 – Pinewood 2 In the last minutes there was a fierce battle for us to maintain our lead and for Pinewood to revenge their Cup defeat. Harvey had a great run down the left wing, chipped to Bobby, who passed to TJ to shoot…. Just millimetres wide of the far post. Jack and Cam worked overtime to keep the Pumas at Bay; Joe made another couple of great saves!   All the Boys played extremely well!  With the exception of that brief time where we decided to defend in our area, the team performed magnificently. For most of the game, we were playing an attacking game, even when we were defending!
