Binfield Lions 1 vs 3 Ascot Aces

Lion’s v Aces matches are always highly competitive and usually deliver some great football. This last clash of Titans was no exception.   The Aces commenced the attack but were promptly sent back to their own half by CAM, Jack, Ollie and Harvey pushing the ball back up to TJ and Bobby.  Bobby had a good few runs down the right wing and soon discovered that a few of the Aces Players had been eating their wheat-a-bix and increased their boot sizes since he last played for Ascot! The Ref played advantage, which enabled Ollie to take a difficult shot at Goal, which hit the side net.   Harvey and Bobby took a quick corner that gave Bobby a shot in the bottom corner, duly saved by the Aces goalie. This caused a Flurry of nonsense to be shouted quite unnecessarily. Taking Quick Free Kicks, Goal Kicks and Corners is all part of the game; The Lions will have taught the Aces players a lesson that will help them in future games.   OH and Hazza Joined the field and soon, the Aces Keeper was under pressure again, making another good save at the bottom corner. Ascot immediately counter attacked and Joe made an easy save from a cross into the box being chipped straight at him. The Aces continued their attack and Joe went to save another loose ball, when……. The Aces forward palmed the ball past the defender and duly got his shot away and then helped bundle poor Joe into the net, followed by the ball! The Ref’s view was obscured, but his decision was final; all in a day’s Football! Binfield 0 – Aces 1   In the second half, one of the Aces’ top strikers arrived; much to our dismay. (Some Ascot parents were asking if we had given the Ascot Players’ Mum a Bournemouth Post Code rather than Binfield). Within minutes, he was bearing down on Joe on a 50/50 ball. Joe managed to get his hands on the ball, but the ball was chipped out of his hands into the net. Joe’s Grandad was Extra Furious and steam was seen venting from his ears! he was also annoyed that Ryan didn’t give the Striker’s mum a Birmingham Post Code! Joe was not happy either! It Hurt! Thank Goodness for Boot-it-proof Kevlar Coated Goalie Gloves! The Aces striker is a great player; and if he had been trying to maliciously kick the ball out of Joe’s hands; Joe’s hand, the Ball and Joe would have been in the back of the net! A good lesson to all players on a 1 to 1 with a Goalie; make sure you can back-off the power in your kick when a Goalie goes for the ball. Goalies are usually the friendliest, kindest and bravest kids in the team! Treat them with great respect! Binfield 0 – Aces 2   Within 2 minutes; the same Aces Striker had keyed the post code of our goal into his GPNS (Goal Post Navigation System) and was back in our box scoring his second goal. Joe was wondering what happened to the sand bags, barbed wire, land-mines, machine guns that we had put up to keep him out after the previous goal! Ryan was supposed to sneak another two defenders onto the field while the Aces Manager wasn’t looking. Binfield 0 – Aces 3   Dropping two goals within 2 minutes, was a wee bit disheartening and we had most of our team with heads, chins and shoulders down; arms drooping, dragging hands on the floor. This caused Ryan to go into overdrive with the Pep-Squawks and Talks from the Side-Line! Not surprisingly, fearing a Week of Lecturing from his Dad; Harvey was one of the first to respond with a run down the right wing, winning a corner.     OH blasted the ball towards Harvey at the gap on the near post; the ball flew past the keeper, into the goal, lifting the Lions’ spirits immensely! Binfield 1 – Aces 3   The Aces immediately counter attacked with a great strike on goal, saved by Joe!   OH and Harvey had another great run, skilling past 4 or more Ascot defenders, giving OH a shot at Goal. The ball glanced off the Aces Goalie’s gloves, went up above his head and into the net. The Aces players’ shoulders slumped, as we started to Jump for Joy…… the Aces Goalie Caught the Ball and pulled it out of the net and the ref did not award the goal…. LLLLLLLLLL   In an Action replay, The Aces Goalie had his knee well inside the goal and his arms were even further inside the goal.  The Ref called play on; he most likely had his view obscured by an Aces player; sadly… for us… A great “Save” by the Aces Goalie!     Binfield 1 – Aces 3   The Lions played their hearts out in last minutes but were unlucky not to get another goal. It was a great game of football and we look forward to the next match between the two teams.   The result does not reflect the considerable efforts of all our players; ·         Joe was under a lot of pressure, made lots of good saves and clearances throughout the game ·         Cam & Jack were rock solid from the start, in defence and pushing up the midfield ·         Ollie and Harvey played exceedingly well in a very difficult role; in midfield and defence where an opposition player is always seconds away!
