Charity Cup

This week has turned out to be the week in which remembrance turned into shock and confusion.Englandbeat world and European champsSpainand Rochford 2nds some how beat us. I suppose the better team sometimes has to lose? To say this game was one sided is an understatement, we created no fewer than 12 one on one situations, we hit the post 5 times, the opponents keeper saved at least 4 times and Rochford had the lead at half time and full time. I have come away from this game wondering quiet what happened. Did some one slip me a drug or something and we really did win…….? No one had ‘a bad game’, yet the result seems to tell a different story.

In the first half alone we had Dean M go through 4 times one on one; Lee turner and Big Adam go through. We had chances from corners, Adam S with 2 opportunities, Dean W, Sam and Killa with opportunities and the Keeper saving a host of chances. Rochford on the other hand had a few chances and yet another goal from offside to mask the real run of play.

So the second half then will give us the right result……Right?

No the second half again proved to be a complete mystery to me we created more we hit the post the keeper stopped our advances and to round off a bad day at the office players made individual errors to make the result seem everything like something it wasn’t. A throw in leads to a tap in, a near post header and poor team and individual defending made us seem like we were the poor side in this affair.

We tried everything as a team to win the game, going from a 4-4-2 to 4-3-3 to a final formation of 3-4-3. We made all positive changes adding more and more emphasis on attacking but it wasn’t until 20 mins from the end when we scored through quick play through the middle from Loui R finding Dean M who finally got his goal. So, as you can see I’m scratching my head a little coming away from this game and trying to make some sense of it.

To make matters worse in a pretty-clean game we lost Killa to an ankle injury, Dean M to a hamstring injury and Gavin with tendon problems. This report isn’t doom and gloom though, there was some big positives; we created for 90 mins and were by far the best team, better than what we have been for weeks and weeks. We started both halves the better team and we dominated the attacking play. We obviously need to improve our team defending, need to defend as an 11 rather than two teams of 5 but in general we have to continue working as hard as I saw in this game to achieve.

Other points we need to improve upon is our team work, we have to run the extra yard and apply pressure to help a team mate or we will be picked off and the ball will be kept away. We are a little slow at set pieces, and we need to improve our movement off the ball, to be honest only Loui R is moving off the ball to give an option, this needs to improve, we have to have 2 or 3 players moving or as a team we are weakened. We also need to move the ball quicker, get used to playing forward, backward or sideways to move teams around.

If we do this and stop the school boy errors we would have won here today, if we finished half the chances we made we would have won here today and if we continue to build from this result we will win where ever next week. A big, big win is just around the corner. Perhaps it will be in our next game Away to Leigh Ramblers atNorth Belfairsopposite the woods I believe.

We expect Brad to be back, Dan Stewart and Si Pizzullo to return. We need to wait on the injuries and hope they come out ok, if not we have very capable people to step up and get the points
