Packie Bonner (Italia 90) Jerzey Dudek (CL 2005) Taffarel (USA 94) Any keeper that ever faced England in penalties (1966 - Present (The Spanish in 96 excluded)

Some of the great penalty saves that will go down in history. You can now add Williams (Cheam 2012)

Let’s start from the beginning.

Meads started on the back foot and after 10 minutes Glyn’s hit the post from a deflected shot off Taylor. Williams showed calmness early on by watching it go by him and then waited for it to come back off the post in to his hands!!! With the return of Taylor and Day to the middle of the park, Meads started to get a hold of the game but without creating any clear chances. As the half went on Ben and Aimal started to cause Glyn’s back 4 some problems and were unlucky to link up with Omar and Ringo to create any real openings.

25 minutes in Glyn’s got hold of the game again and started to create chances but luckily with some poor finishing not testing us. Their number 10 (nice fella!!!!) managed to get hold of the ball on our left hand side and force his way in to the area….as long as we stay on our feet here he is going nowhere...........yep that’s a penalty for diving in and taken the feet from under him, no names mentioned!!!!

After much debate between the opo of who would take the pen their captain who never misses apparently gets the nod. Fair play to him as he was a man to his word as he stuck it away nicely but the ref, nice fella did what he was told whoever shouted the loudest at him clearly saw Glyn’s players enter the area before the kick was taken. Williams this time decides to try and psyche the penalty taker out and pulls a Dudek. With been left on his feet for the first attempt, Williams decides to just pick a side and go with it.Known by now this fella was so cocky with his first attempt the decision was to go the same way as the 1st penalty went and it paid off, managing to get both hands on it and push it away to safety. Lionel, pictured below after giving away the penalty (oops I said no names mentioned) was a very relieved man.

The game remained even for the rest of the half with neither team creating any clear chances and the referee giving Whelan a talking too for….talking out loud!!!!! Bizarre!!

2nd half was all Meads bar the last 10 minutes which was evenly balanced but were unable to break through and get that deciding goal. The introduction of Jack brought new problems for the Glyn’s and he came close on a couple of occasions with just heading over both times. Both teams ended with goals disallowed and some handbags at the end made for some good team bonding!!! 1st point on the board for the season and a much better team performance than the opening day fixture.

ß Lionel, but on his feet!!
