CRUISE INTO LAST 16 COUNTY CUP!!
Thorney close welcomed crook town wanderers in this eagerly anticipated county cup tie, both sides chomping at the bit after suffering an eight week lay off due to the big freeze. Thorney were expecting a hard game as crook had knocked out the old enemy the hunters lodge in an earlier round. Thorney were missing Karl Adams (retired)Brett gillatt, john bewick (work)and elliott peverley(injured). Thorney welcomed back "evergreen" and thorney "GOD" Paul hodgson after a long lay off due to work commitments, kris johnson started in midfield to give some extra bite and alan surtees returned to left back. Thorney started the game at a furious tempo with crook not knowin what was happening, thorney were first in the tackle and ghosting past there opponents at will, and after 10 minutes dale spence blitzed the full back and jinked inside the box only to be brought down. Hodgson stepped up and scored with a low right drive, 5 Minutes later and spence was at it again and a carbon copy run ended in the same result PENALTY. Hodgson this time hit the penalty to the left corner sending the keeper in the opposition direction, Kris johnson went close, spence down the right again cut it back to jonna who hit a low drive which was blocked, jonna picked up the rebound and his left foot shot went agonisingly wide, Danny makin decided to start terrorising the crook right back and he sprinted into the box only to see his effort hit the side netting, Hodgson nearly completed a first half hat trick, firstly he stabbed home spences cross, but the keeper clawed the ball out the bottom corner and then Hodgson volleyed a Makin cross off the upright. HT 2-0. Thorney soon put the game to bed a minute after kick off and it was 3-0 , dale spence with his 3rd assist, this time a shot come cross found its way to paul hodgson who completed his hat trick. Thorney were dominating all over the park heath swindle dunn surtees composed at the back. Brooke johnson woodward full of energy and endeavour in midfield, makin hodgson spence pace and power in the final third, hodgson volleyed over the on rushing keeper after a delightfull pass from liam dunn , Heaths 20 yard free kick was agonisingly wide, and dan makin blazed over, crook made the game interesting when they scored with 20 to play a corner was half cleared, and the ball was returned to the back post the striker nipped in nd headed home 3-1. From the kick off thorney scored, the ball made its way to alan surtees whos 18 yard screamer was fumbled by the keeper, spence scored an exquisit goal from the tightest of angles, thorney bossed the closing stages as crook tried in vain to get into the game, kyle gibson had a shot well saved by the keeper late on. A magnificent performance considering the long lay off, well done everyone involved, especially Framie, Cragga and beefy who somehow got the pitch playable.
