The match report for the 1st game of the season in Brians words as the manager was too busy sunning himself on a beach somewhere.

Disregarding the words of the stand in management team (keep things tight and protect the keeper) the boys tore into Ransomes from the whistle. Sax were 1st to the ball and got the season off to a dream start when a combination of Ed and Strow set up Rossi to beat the keeper from close range on 2 minutes. This shocked Ransomes into action and they quickly forced a corner at the other end. Poor marking subsequently allowed an unopposed header to tie the scores.

This set up a see-saw first half. Ben set up Rossi and he narrowly failed to take the lead. Ransomes were struggling to keep up their usual passing game under the constant pressure exerted by Arron and Fish in midfield. It was Sax who were definitely creating the clearer chances while Sam was dominant at the back. Despite this it was Ransomes who took the lead on 22 mins when a ball was pulled back from the byline and neatly slotted home leaving Kyle with no chance. Ransomes Relaxed and just 4 mins later Ed pulled the ball back for debut boy Ben to score a similar goal. He frantic pace of the game continued until just before half time Ben grabbed his 2nd goal when he dispossessed the back line and shot across the keeper,

Half Time Sax 3-2 Ransomes

The 2nd half began in the same vein after Sax made a couple of changes Strow and Kris making way for Connor and Luke with Ben moving to central attack. Arron narrowly missed with a long range effort 5 mins into the half. Ransomes then enjoyed Their best spell of the match dominating possession and forcing a series of corners. The defence stood firm limiting the opposition to a couple of headers that cleared the bar. Sax eventually stemmed the tide and began making chances themselves, on 73 Ben slipped the ball to Connor who coolly finished from just inside the box. This finally allowed the unlucky George and John to enter the game (replacing Rossi and Arron). A couple of mins later Sax won a free kick . Sam picked out the head of Ben and when his effort rebounded off the bar John was 1st to react and scored with what was probably his 2nd touch of the game.

A perfect start to the season and a race amongst the spectators to text Dave and Jack sunning themselves on holiday. A brilliant team effort with some outstanding performances. Kyle cool and commanding in goal (Jack who?) Ben on his debut and Sam playing a colossal game in defence.

Well done lads I was never nervous and checking my watch every 5 minutes to see how long to go and had to read the txt 3 times before I believed it.
