Pegasus 4 - SBV 0

Many a sick note was received by Morgan before the game and on closer inspection many had dodgy handwriting and signatures and me thinks some were absent without leave.

As the e mails sent by Morgan illustrated SBV were down to the bear bones with Draftee Bret pulled into playing a strikers role which from his shape implies he is more a Tevez type however minus two traits 1 he did play when asked to and put in 100% and 2 he was seen at the ground at 6.30 am warming up such was his keenness , Richard playing this week with Zimmer frame as his dodgy hip was clear to see. So we entered the field with 10.5 players and one who promised to be there at half time This being "offside Dennison"

This said when the first whistle went the early exchanges saw Benfleet clearly making the early chances. We showed we were organised and that everybody contributed as we showed when we passed that we could create chances. Perry, Ben, Gary and Cliff all had shots which showed were were far from scared.

That said our passing was solid in patches and if truth be known with a little more patience more rewards may have come Benfleet's way. The pitch was wide and long which clearly meant all had to do a fair bit of running which was evident with Morgan chucking up within 5 minutes from the off which is a record.

The defence held well and was organised despite Pegasus who were a premier side who clearly had some guile and touch did move the ball well.

So after 20 minutes of the game the score level However Benfleet it  has to be said had better threats on goal.

The game changed in the 23 Minute where Pegasus who attacked on their  right crossed the ball, This was meant for there striker who was well marked

But the cross was one which we have all seen before with the Keith who till then had but one shot to save was on the near post the ball went to the far, it managed to find itself in the SBV net. Their winger actually apologised but nethertheless it was now 1-0 to Pegasus Which at this time was an injustice to SBV as was against the run of play . This Unfortunate occurrence bolstered Pegasus and Benfleet had to do a bit of defending. But defend SBV did.

With Harry our newly found workhorse up front chasing everything and Bret again working hard our play forward was sometimes a little rushed and possibly our lack of pace meant our final ball perhaps needed more quality and asked too much of our forward pair. But again our passing game did work,  but what     SBV needed as described earlier demonstrate more patience and play more passes through midfield instead of playing a more hopeful ball forward. But again during this period having rode Pegasus threat for 5 minutes SBV again pushed Pegasus back

Again, against the run of play a Pegasus  attack on the SBV left saw Morgan miss two challenges which allowed their player to play the ball across goal. the ball although not played with pace managed to evade the SBV defence and also their strikers and somewhat fortunate to find their left sided midfielder who hit the ball towards goal. This low drive again went through players and unfortunate SBV found themselves 2-0 down.

Dennison Turned up and was seen practicing putting his arm up and calling offside. So Richard limped off the field to take more pain killers. to allow Dennison to try this method out for real

And within 5 minutes he did having watched too much strictly come dancing he stepping forward  arm raised aloft  with a small kink in his hand, straight back arched slightly with an aloof grimace as if a matador in a Paso dobbl'e she shouted offside. No signor said the referee as clearly his knowledge of offside is equal to his knowledge of psychology i.e. you  need to be the last man. Which he was not as matt was 20 yards behind him. Dennison still keeping this pose as if he was receiving applause after the kill of the bull left us exposed at the back and it was Pegasus who applied the 'coup les grasse' and put Benfleet 3-0 down.

Half time whistle SBV were very unlucky to be  3-0 down.

Second half saw Benfleet Puff and Huff but is was obvious that try as we might we needed more up front. Dennison seeing that his early attempt at Offside was unsuccessful tried again and again, each time this half seeing Keith make good saves.

Half way through the second half Richard replaced a tiring Bret and this seemed to bolster SBV who then had there best period of the second half with a Harry going close and a few shots and opportunities being had. Dennison got a few offside's right and again we played some good football. Again against the run of play Pegasus scored a fortunate goal. The ball crossed  Keith at full stretch had caught the ball at the same time as their striker challenged and fouled the keeper. Any usual game would have seen the foul given but this was not SBV's day and the ball was in the net 4-0

What I will say is our heads did not go down and SBV showed good spirit and effort. A fact which must be noted.

History was almost made as limp Harding ( ask Mrs H ) pounced/ slid onto a  loose ball ( which I might add did nothing good for his hip, but he'll take one for the cause )  and had it not been for a good smothering save from their goalkeeper would have notched his first score which is something Mrs. H has been waiting for years for….

Final score 4-0

Effort 100% spirit 100% but no cigar…. Someone will pay ……………………….
