Monkton Vipers Vs Felling Magpies     - Saturday 10th October – St James Catley Park

Another fine morning saw the Vipers up against a hardworking Felling team, out to strip us of our unbeaten tag….but how would we do ??

Starting line up of Matt, Mason, James C, Joe, Thomas, Kaie, Max, with Subs, James R, Kyle and  Sam

Getting off to a quick start the Vipers attacked down both flanks, both Mason and James making good runs, nice passing and with excellent support from Kaie & Joe through the middle.

Quickly taken short corner from Mason to Kaie who took his long range shot into the box and palmed away by the Felling defender to give away a penalty …..up stepped Kaie and a well struck penalty found the back of the net…

Good tackling in defence from Thomas, with a lovely pass to Kaie who ran down the left midfield and a great pass through to Joe who controlled before tucking away the Vipers 2nd goal……

More good defensive clearances got the ball back into the Felling half….good support and movement from the Vipers and a block from Felling gave away the corner….another quick one saw Kaie fire in another shot, this time well saved by a combination of the keeper and the post but Mason was Jonny on the spot…tucking the ball away into the far corner ..3 nil and some great effort by the whole team..

Tackling from Kaie in midfield but Fellings pressure got the ball through to Max, our last defender…..some really resilient tackling from Max chased the ball down and cleared for a Felling corner….good marking in the box ..Matthew getting everyone into position and James clearing well…

Good clearance by Thomas from the next Felling attack…going long with his clearance but just running out for a throw in….

Subs – James R on….Sam on…Kyle on…Max, Mason & James C off….

Corners from Thomas down the left, hitting a better spot in the box this time and only excellent saving headers from Felling saved scoring chances….

Another fired in shot saw another handball in the box, Joe stepping up this time to calmly stick it away…well done Joe and 4 nil Monkton..

Half time….and oranges all round…well orange juice… all round

Brilliant harrying of the Felling midfield from Joe saw Kyle collecting in midfield and taking off down the wing…brilliant jinky little run and a quick look up saw Joe free….lovely slid ball through to Joe an only a slight slip from Joe stopped him scoring what would have been the goal of the game….excellent work from you guys and just what we want from you !

Clearance from Felling was quickly cleared in defence by Sam, passing inside to Thomas who’s shot from distance was blocked….James R picking the ball up and firing in another shot….this time the keeper saving well….and pushing away for a corner.

Corners from Thomas and Kyle – again much more accurate than in recent games, which is great to see you learning from past efforts – only good defensive blocks prevented more goal scoring chances..

One corner from Tom was particularly worthy of mention….his blocked corner coming back out, Tom chasing it down, winning the ball back, turning back inside really well, out-witting the defence then firing a cross shot over, only just going wide – great effort Tom !

Mason back on, James C and Max back on…..Mason quickly into the action, winning the ball well, running down the line, passing to Kaie, then crossing form James R to score again….some scoring record James my lad !

More attacking from the Vipers, clearance by Max, through to Kyle who (having watched his Ronaldo DVD) made a few stepovers, tricky turns, passed inside to Kaie who’s shot was saved.

Mason tracking back well this time down the right, winning the ball well and drawing the defenders into him before releasing Kaie away down the right, great long shot hit the post….then the bar….before finally being cleared.

Not to be denied though and minutes later Kaie got his 2nd goal with a well struck shot from the right, making it 6 nil to the Vipers..

Great passing Mase, getting the ball to work for you, rather than the other way round !

A final Vipers attack brought up Monktons 7th when James Reed, worked in from passing by Kyle down the left, onto James R, jinking in from the left of midfield and sticking the ball away nicely to round off a great performance.

Excellent passing and all round play today guys – a comfortable win but Felling made us work hard for it, never giving up and always trying hard.

Man of the Match today was Kaie (Phil) & Kyle (Chris) but once again it could have been any of you for your effort and determination….

Next up Jarrow Super Blues but first…Wednesday night indoor training !!!

Well done guys !
