Monkton Vipers vs Primrose FC……Saturday 10th April 09:00 kick off

A bright sunny morning for today’s game…much to the delight of the roaring Vipers Supporters. We had the Gargett clan out in full support today…Gillian and Alan giving the ever-present Mary some extra vocal support !..on the back of some recent Thomas goals I think they fancied some more ! Could he deliver again ??? Only time would tell…

Up against Primrose FC…who’s league position belies some good recent performances….and nothing to take for granted..

Kaie and Sam both away today so a starting line up of Matthew, Kyle playing as the lone defender, Max and Thomas in the centre of the park with James Catley out left, Mason out right and James Reed up front….Joe starting as sub today.

Good throw in from James to Kyle played it through to Thomas, long pass picked up by Mason who took a defender on then fired in a shot that the keeper collected….goal kick out to Mason who passed through to James Reed who’s shot was saved again.

Nice start

Good passing between Thomas, James Reed and James Catley….finally passing the ball back to Kyle on the half way line who clipped a ball back into the box but just collected by the keeper…nice passing.

Attacking from Primrose down the middle but Thomas intercepting, playing the ball down the flank for James Catley to chase, crossing well but Primrose clearing for a corner…

Corner taken well by Kyle but over too many heads and out for a throw to Primrose….taken back across their own box then cleared out across the half way line….Kyle running onto the ball and a quick first time pass back through the centre caught the Primrose defence napping, James Reed running through to tuck the ball away beautifully and 1 – 0 Monkton.

Primrose kicking off but immediate pressure from Monkton nipped the ball away, Mason attacking down the right, crossing but again winning the corner…..Joe Mitchell coming on for Mason in a quick switch over….corner from Thomas right onto the penalty spot (good one Tommy)…shot coming in from James that was blocked but Joe nipped in to tuck it away and 2 – 0 Vipers.

Vipers defending well with Kyle and Thomas combining well, James Catley making some quality runs to create gaps and openings…Kyle passing into James Reed this time who tried to take on 1 too many defenders….Max intercepting and playing a cracking ball down to Joe who’s first time shot was saved….lovely work from Vidic..I mean er Max....

Quick throw in from James Reed (GREAT to get the throw ins in QUICKLY!!) played down to Thomas who had made a nice run, passing into Max then back to Thomas who slid it away to make it 3 – 0 Vipers (and a hell of a racket from the Gargett clan who know how to celebrate!!!)

More nice interplay between midfield, again some quick throw ins which made the most of the space we have before Primrose regrouped…..Thomas off and Mason on……nice throw from Mason, down the line to James Reed who won a good corner under pressure….lovely hard corner fired in by James that slid under Masons foot but not Max’s who slotted it away beautifully to make it 4 – 0 and his first goal for the Vipers ….very nice and thoroughly deserved by Max who has been in magic form this Season.

Nice running through the middle from Primrose this time, well tackled by James Catley, then Mason who passed through to James Reed, very unlucky to hit the keeper with his shot….

Great clearance from Primrose, this time their winger was away and attacking down our right, working well with his midfield to get away, only Max chasing back and making the interception but Primrose earning their first corner….fired into the edge of our box but Mason picking it up, running away down the right going the full length of the pitch and just running it out of play…remember to get the old noggin up Mason – see who’s with you and free for the pass …good effort though.

From the goal kick Joe Mitchell pounded again, leaping onto the clearance and hammering home to make it 5 – 0…well done Joe.

From the kick off Mason straight in again, winning the ball, passing out wide to James Catley who was gone….totally gone… and away down the wing, crossing well to Joe who tucked it away again…3 for Joe (2nd game in a row) and 6 for the Vipers !

Half time and another little quote….

“The best Italian this Club has signed is the Chef”…Frank Leboeuf on Chelsea

A change of tack from Big Phil Catley..the Vipers Manager….Matthew coming out of goal and Max going in between the posts, a rare and well earned run out for him today – a chance to stretch those legs and a chance for Max to get some experience between the posts…

Primrose started the 2nd half well…working hard through midfield but Matthew in and tackling well from the word go…well done !

After soaking up a little pressure we started shooting from all over the place and I thought we needed a little bit more composure, maybe looking for the pass rather than hitting half shots goal wards for the keeper to collect…no need to panic – we just have to use our eyes and ears to make the right decision before kicking the ball. Lets talk to each other a little more and keep the game simple.

Corner for the Vipers, this time from the right and hammered in by Kyle, good corner bud but just need to take a bit of pace of it next time….looked lethal from where I was !

Good work from Kyle, passing into Joe who laid the ball back beautifully to Mason who’s shot whizzed over the keepers head to make it 7 – 0….well done.

From the kick off Joe was in quickly to tackle and win the ball back, passing it out wide to James Reid who knocked the pass across and who was there but Matthew Agar to slide the ball away for his 1st of the Season and a well earned 8 – 0 to the Vipers.

Good pressure from Primrose again, through the middle and attacking in numbers brought a great diving save from Max but the ball just skid under him….Thomas the saviour of the day, clearing literally off the line and passing it out to Mason who was quickly under pressure - an unbelievably cheeky back heel (!) saw Mason away from his marker, running away up the right wing, passing through to Joe Mitchell who took the ball past a Primrose midfielder, right down to the by line, crossing wonderfully for James Reid to tuck the ball home for the Vipers 9th – certainly a contender for the team goal of the Season !

More good defensive work from Max this time, tracking back well and getting in more than 1 well timed tackle as Primrose strived for that elusive goal….Thomas getting some good long throw in’s away to his team mates and supporting his midfield well.

2 long efforts from Primrose went right through to Max who picked up the ball nicely, with some well time kicks to get the ball away – remember to use your whole box Max to give you a few extra yards to clear the ball the maximum distance – good effort though !

After further attacks from Monkton the full time whistle blew to make it 9 – 0 Monkton and another great hard working performance.

Credit to you all for putting on a great show – Joe, outstanding today - another hat-trick and continuing your fine form, earning you Man of the Match from Phil, with Mason picking up the award from Chris.

That said, we have to say a huge well done to you all – without the team working together and for each other, you would get no result at all, it’s only down to your team work that results are coming game after game.

Another (!) Thomas goal, fine performances from James Catley, Kyle in defence, first goals for Max and Matthew who looked very comfortable in midfield, some great finishing from James Reed and a solid finish from Mason - magic

Keep up the great work.Look forwards to seeing you Wednesday night for some tactical work
