Saturday 21st November – Primrose Ravens

Big game for the lads today – playing the only team we’ve yet to play…Primrose Ravens…themselves flying high in the League and some notable scalps they’ve taken already…a tough game !

Starting with Matthew, James C, Max, Kaie, James R, Kyle and Mason, with Joe, Thomas and Sam raring to go as subs.

Kicking off into the breeze, The Vipers were in and tackling well….James Reed running onto a Kyle Ferguson pass and a timely tackle from Primrose saving the day for them….good start and nice passing.

A lot of interplay in midfield, both sides working hard to create chances ….a long ball from Primrose was pushed out by James C for a corner….great corner from Primrose and a superbly struck volley by Primrose found the top corner of the net to make it 1 – 0 to Primrose….our marking could have been a bit tighter but an unbelievable strike from Primrose.

From the kick off, Kaie passing the ball down to Kyle who ran down the left wing, crossing well but the keeper collecting…Long clearance from the keeper was collected well by Primrose, running down our right wing and threatening to break away….a great tackle from Max won the ball back brilliantly, passing to Mason who was away down the wing, past the last defender, down to the by line and made a great cross, only just missing James R….brilliant bit of play though Mase !

Another clearance by Primrose intercepted by Kaie, playing in Kyle then back to Kaie, long ball through the middle was hammered away by Primrose defence…this time James C collecting the ball, passing through to midfield, Mason collecting the ball and sliding a pass through to James Reed who’s snap shot just missed the post.

More crosses from, this time from a ball James Reed had chased down very well, crossing the ball and Masons 1st time shot just went wide….good effort, just need a little touch next time mate !

Long Primrose clearance and a flick from their midfielder, sent a ball through to their forwards…Matthew having none of it !..straight out and collected the ball well…

Ball out wide to Primrose midfield, heading back to their byline but James Reed chased down well and won it back brilliantly, running in on goal and clipping the ball away with aplomb…1 – 1 and Vipers back in the game !

Primrose kicking off and attacking down the right…passing the ball through….Sam just missed his clearance, the ball sticking in the mud, then it was poked forwards again, Tom just mistiming his clearance and the shot cross from Primrose catching Matt out and rolling across the line, just trickling through the muddy 6yard box…..very unlucky for the Vipers ..2 – 1 Primrose…

Couple of changes, Thomas on, Joe on and Sam on…Max, James and James off..

More attacking from Monkton, Kaie and Kyle working well together again…this time a quick throw from Thomas sent Kaie away down the left, getting goal side and attacking well….hammered away by Primrose but Thomas intercepting…and clearing.

Excellent bit of work from Kaie this time, passing well and attacking with strength through the middle, lovely slide ball through to Joe who tucked it away to make it 2 – 2 !!

Halftime

Great passing, great effort and commitment – excellent half and we are still right in the game, more of the same required !

Getting underway down the right this time, Mason tackling well and earning a throw in, quickly taken by Mason to Kaie, then long upfield, Joe sniffing about but cleared away…..FANTASTIC chase back and sliding tackle from Kaie Coates, winning the ball and clearing away through to Joe – great effort, energy and timing Kaie !

Joe tracking back, winning an interception but both teams struggling to create chances….throw ins to both teams…remember to get goal side Vipers, too many going over our heads and giving opportunities to Primrose….got to open thos eyed in the backs of our heads as well….their last man was drifting in behind our defence which we have to watch for..

Nice clearance by Sam – hammered clear downfield and into Thomas, nice pass to Mason then one two with Joe on the right….lovely play and a pleasure to see !

Some big tackles in defence for both teams, James Catley back on and Sam making some crucial interceptions…this time James collecting the ball running down the left and winning the corner….Kaie crossing, the ball coming out but James Catley picking the ball up after tackling well….playing a beautiful pass across the box and Mason tearing in at the far post to make it 3 – 2 to the Vipers !! BRILLIANT stuff from everyone !

Straight down to the other end and Matthew involved straight away, from a corner and a flick on, Matthew made a GREAT save parrying and holding onto the ball to stop a definite goal…

Kaie working hard in midfield – literally everywhere today – passing across to Kyle, couldn’t quite get the ball away quick enough and tackled, earning the throw…

James Reed back on, Kyle and Sam playing well together …nice passing…Joe collecting the ball this time, turning and playing in James Reed, only a last ditch tackle stopped the ball but Thomas fired in a shot that was blocked…

Cleared away by the Keeper but the Vipers in like a rocket to pick up any poor ball….long shot from Kyle just wide….then another almost identical effort that the keeper saved….a little glance up would have seen 3 Vipers up with you buddy but if the shots on and you fancy it …why not !

Good concentration from the Vipers for the remaining few minutes, great tackling from Max, and Thomas….vital interceptions from attacks and also a great clearance from Kyle, picking the ball up from a Primrose corner and kicking the ball long, downfield..

More efforts from Kyle, also playing a lovely ball through to James Reed, then onto Joe – who’s shot was just wide….

Thomas intercepting in midfield, some great challenges mate !

Another long ball through over midfield, heading towards the Monkton goal, but Matthew out yet again to smother the ball….

Kyle and James, creating chances again….another shot just wide but then the final whistle !

3 – 2 to the Vipers and a well earned victory !

Massive performances from EVERY player today and Primrose made you rise to the occasion.

From goal, right through defence, midfield, and up front, you all played a blinder !

We are all as proud as punch with your efforts – truly a credit to Monkton football club !

Man of the Match today went to Matthew and Joe but, once again EVERYONE deserved a Man of the Match because it was truly a team performance.

Well done !
