Saturday 6th March 09:00hrs St James Catley Stadium

Well, we are finally back !

After 2months away, at last the weather has provided a little window to get back into action….who should be up next for the magnificent Vipers but Primrose…..

A wet, muddy pitch saw us warm up nicely and raring to go…

Starting out with Matt in goal, Thomas, Sam, Mason, Kaie, Kyle & Joe up front, with Max and James as subs..

Straight from the kick off Kaie was right in on the Primrose players, winning the ball with some tough tackling, dribbling past 2 Primrose midfielders and tucking the ball away to make it 1 Nil Monkton – amazing start !

Football Quote –I don’t have a particular celebration when I score….just a BIG smile is all you need…Dimitar Berbatov

Kicking off again and Mason, with Joe were in tackling well….some nice link up play between Kaie and Mason, a long ball across the pitch coming out to Kyle, who’s cross came in to Joe who nipped in a sliding shot that glance in off the post, followed up by Mason to make no mistake….2 Nil Monkton

Long ball down the wing from the Primrose kick off saw Sam intercept well then clear away well to Kaie in the middle of the park…tackled well by Primrose but Joe in to win it back and play in Mason…out for a throw. Good efforts to create some space from the throw in by Mason, got Kaie away then a shot that flew in to make it 3.

Another log ball over the top saw Thomas pick up the ball in defence then pass down the line to Mason, then onto Joe who passed out wide to Kyle, who’s cross shot went just wide again…good pressure from Monkton.

Another ball won in midfield from Mason this time saw him away down the wing, playing a lovely ball through to Joe who slotted home to make it 4 Nil Monkton …great play and passing.

Football Quote…who once said ”I’m about as fast as my Nana”…not it wasn’t Phil…it was Robbie Fowler !

Primrose broke away down the left from the kick off, this time a fine interception from Max, on for Sam, who took his time to look up, passing down the wing to Mason who passed to Kaie, racing away down the middle, then passing back to Mason who fired in to make it 5 Nil…and a really great team goal…what’s that I can hear ?  oh sorry, it’s just the applause from the crowd….

James Reed on, James Catley on, lovely pick up and clearance from Matthew, kicking away with pinpoint accuracy to James Catley out on the left…the Primrose midfield were on him like a ton of bricks though, but James pushed through them and played a lovely ball through to James Reed who ran on then passed into Joe who scored again….lovely passing.

Half time…..

Oranges, a gulp of your Isotonic sports drinks…well your pop, quick gee up from Phil and a well done so far….more of the same required…

Couple of targets, lets try some 3 touch football, remember to have respect for Primrose who are giving their all…

Primrose kick off….

Tackles from Sam and James Reed, winning the ball but Primrose winning it back…then a long shot over to Matthew…another nice goal kick in slippery conditions…out to Mason on the right who pushed forwards, going past 2 defenders before whipping a ball across that no-one could get on the end for and out for a goal kick….

From the goal kick Kaie jumped on the clearance and a first time effort went just wide….exactly the same again seconds later and the same result…just take a second or two more to compose yourself before shooting next time buddy.

James Catley tackling well, winning the ball then passing into James Reed who fired it in to score ..

From the kick off, Thomas tackled well, then shots from Kyle, ricocheted off defenders and was finally cleared….the Primrose attackers this time broke away and the lad took his chance well…firing in to pull one back and remind us that we need to stay focused whatever the score…

Nice interceptions from Thomas and James Catley, both tackling really well, playing across to Mason who tucked it away…

More excellent crossing from Kyle, winning corners for Monkton, taken well by Thomas who was playing a blinder, creating chances for Joe and James, finally coming out to the corner for Thomas who cut back inside then fired in a great shot that unluckily went straight at the keeper who parried it away – great effort Tom.

More hard work from Kyle, supported by Max and Sam, good passing through midfield to Thomas and James Reed, working hard to create chances and space.

James Catley working hard again, playing in James Reed who’s cross was totally awesome, sliding across the 6 yard box for Joe once again but this time, just going wide with the shot….

A great effort from you all on your return to league competition….a comfortable win but only down to the hard work you ALL put in.

Final score was around 9 – 1 to Monkton which was awesome…Phil and Jimmy gave their Man of the Match award to Mason who picked up his first hat-trick of the season, as did Joe Mitchell, other goals coming from Kaie and James Reed.

Chris Man of the Match went to James Catley who had a great game and was influential throughout.

To finish off with a final footy quote..”I couldn’t settle in Italy – it was like living in a foreign country” – Ian Rush on life at Juventus…

I couldn’t have said it better.

Well done and see you Wednesday !
