Primrose Ravens (Away) Saturday 13th March

Footy Quotes….”I’d certainly like to be as big as Lara Croft one day” – Michael Owen…one day Michael..one day

“By trying to sign Peter Crouch, are Middlesbrough aiming too high ?”…Jeff Stelling

Massive game today against a Primrose Ravens team that took us right to the wire in our last game, only a late Vipers goal sneaked us the game 3 – 2 on that occasion, but how have we progressed since then ?...time would tell…

Bright sunny morning, muddy underfoot but no snowman material on the ground so everyone’s happy!

Playing in our away strips today (ahem) and up against the Blue of Primrose

Mums, Dads, Grandas and Grandmas from right across the Country today…the Vipers reputation is drawing crowds from everywhere !

Matt in goal, Thomas, Max, James Catley on the left wing, Mason on the right, James Reed up front with Kaie in his key midfield position.

Kyle, Sam, Joe warming up on the sidelines to start the game…

Primrose getting us underway and attacking down the left, working hard winning 2 quick throw ins, then a corner which was well cleared by Kaie…more pressure from Primrose but our defence coped well, Max and Thomas combining to tackle well, then clearing….this pressure went on for about 3min utes with the Vipers struggling to get the ball out of our our half…..until Thomas cleared to James Reed on the edge of the half way line, James then went past 2 defenders, running brilliantly with the ball before tucking it past the Primrose keeper to make it 1 – Nil Vipers….well done James !

Kicking off again, Primrose were back on the attack again, James Catley tackling well, helped by Kaie to win a Vipers throw in, down the line to James then punted back into the Vipers half by Primrose….Max tackling well to win the ball then passing the ball down the line (Captain Composure) to Mason and Kaie who attacked together …good defending from Primrose cleared the ball but Matthew collected well….good use of the box and long clearance downfield but again kicked back into our half….some good pressure from Primrose that was only bettered by our defending – GREAT team effort from midfield Mason, Kaie and James all tracking back to help their defence…..

Another nice clearance from Thomas this time down to James Catley then James Reed who cut in from the left, Mason pulling away into space, taking a defender with him giving James the space to fire in another shot ..scoring well to make it 2 for James and 2 nil to the Vipers !

Vipers tails up now, Thomas clearing from their kick off, a long ball on to Mason who couldn’t quite get the shot in but whipped in the cross that went past everyone and out for a goal kick….

From the goal kick, Kaie collected and passed through to James C who ran on from the left, laying a lovely pass to Mason who took a second to set himself before firing a shot wide…

Thomas and Max tackling well back in defence, stopping the Primrose attacks on every occasion…Mason away again from Kaie down the right, this time losing the ball to Primrose but chased back really well to stop the Primrose attack and put it out for a throw…well done.

Sam, Kyle, Joe all on, with James Reed, James Catley and Thomas off….Sam straight into the mix with 3 great interceptions and clearances, Kaie out on the left, dancing past the Primrose defence and crossing well to Joe, who played in Mason who’s shot came off the post and out to the keeper….hard lines Mase but excellent passing from Kaie and particularly Joe who looked up well and layed a lovely pass in…well done.

Attacks from Primrose again, this time winning a corner, good defending got us clear with the ball out to Kyle on the left then played down the line to Joe and back inside to Kaie, eventually winning a corner for Vipers…..taken well by Kaie into the 6yd box but collected by their keeper.

Next Primrose attack and a little mix up between Sam and Kaie, the Primrose striker whipping the ball away but pulling his shot wide…

Clearance from Matt, went through to Max who played Mason away down the line, running away from the defence and crossing from the by line….a bit tight with the cross and the ball came back off the post, the follow up pass was tight again and the keeper snaffled it when we had 3 open players attacking the goal….pick your man out Mase…

Half time and 2nil to the Vipers but that 3rd goal would have been a nicer cushion….still great effort from everyone.

More of the same asked for by Phil…very impressed with our workrate.

“That was in the past….we’re in the future now”…the new Dr Who David Beckham

“I’ve learned that you have to score goals to win”….Rafa Benitez who knows how to win !

Straight from the kick off we had Kaie passing down to Mason who went into the corner, then back out to Kaie, onto James Catley, in the mix, ball into the box then cleared out but hammered back in by Kaie who finished with aplomb to make it 3 nil ! Great finish

James Catley really getting stuck in, working hard and looking up to make the pass…nice throw in from Kaie down the line to James Catley who made a brilliant turn to trick his marker, running down to the corner and crossing well…just the Primrose keeper collected the ball..

From the clearance, Mason down the wing again, crossing into a crowd of people in the box but Primrose cleared…the ball coming back in but winning a corner….taken well by Kyle

More corners from Vipers, Kyle crossing well and Primrose hammering clear….Kaie kicked it back in with a good shot but the keeper kicked it clear back to the half way line….who was following up but our very own Hot Shot Hamish Kyle Ferguson who struck a beautiful shot that drew a gasp from the crowd….the ball flew over everyone’s heads and just clipped the top of the bar as it went over….fantastic strike and effort Kyle buddy.

More great tackling from Max & Sam in defence, holding their positions well and clearing when under pressure…Primrose now going with 3 up front in an effort to create more chances….

Kyle dropped back into defence, Thomas came on for Kaie in midfield…

Max intercepting in defence, passing out to Kyle who passed in for James Reed who ran in and buried the shot to make it 3 for him on the day….nice mate and great hat-trick !

Vipers attacking and PASSING the ball around so well now, Thomas getting involved in the middle, laying some lovely passes through to James Reed down the right, running on again and firing in another shot and scored ! 4 for the day and 5 Nil to the Vipers !

Lovely interceptions in midfield from the kick off, this time Sam clearing well to James Catley then Thomas, magic pass out wide to James again, this time Joe pulling off his marker and wide open in the box…lovely pass from James Reed and Joe tucked it away…great goal and 6 Nil…

Pressure back from Primrose attacking down the right then crossing into the middle for a first time shot that Matthew dove down low for…palming the ball away down the right of the goal and put wide by the Primrose striker….got to keep our wits about us !

Good work again from Joe and Thomas in the midfield, Joe making a lovely cut back pass to James Reed who’s shot was blocked, but came back out to Thomas who blasted it home for his first of the Season….well done Tom !

Yet more tough tackling from Sam, clearing to Kyle who was away down the left, crossing well to James Reed who fired in another !...his 5th of the day and Monktons 8th…amazing !

A final attack from the Vipers down the left brought a corner taken by Kyle, cleared out by Primrose but only as far as Thomas who fired in another long shot straight into the top corner, for his 2nd and the Vipers 9th…..fantastic performance and great attitude – you kept going right until the end !

Full time..

Applause from the crowd and coaches, we witnessed probably your best performance of the season against a decent Primrose team…well done to everyone involved.

Man of the Match for us today from Phil was Sam – great display Sam and from Chris was James Reed with his 5 goals…..mention though to Tom who scored his first goals of the Season and a polished defensive display…

To be honest we could have given you ALL Man of the Match awards today !

A few points to remember….

Get goal side for throw ins we are defending – they were throwing the ball over our heads nearly every time they had a throw in…be careful !!

When attacking lets get our throw-ins taken quickly and down the line…don’t hang around to give the opposition time to regroup.

Keep looking around, when defending or attacking, particularly from corners.

Primrose were often sneaking around the back of us when we were distracted…”eyes in the back of your head”….or we will get caught out…(maybe)

BRILLIANT effort today and you should ALL be proud of yourselves…this is an excellent wam up for our next big test…Consett Fire next Saturday…..if we perform like we did today we have nothing to fear from anyone in the League, so more of the same guys !

One last footy quote….”I’ll take any goal, any time, anywhere…you can call me the martini striker” Carlton Cole….
