On Saturday 5th September 2026, SYL Blacks hosted Santos Panthers U12 Black in a league home match at the University of Northampton’s Waterside Campus. Kick-off was at 10:30am for this 9-a-side contest, which ended emphatically in favour of the home side with a commanding 5-0 win after 60 minutes of play plus added time.

SYL Blacks lined up in a 3-4-1 formation, deploying three defenders at the back: Rais Quartey on the right, Leon Sanders centrally, and Aiden Nsah on the left. The midfield quartet consisted of Buddy Sanders on the right wing, Ollie Strachan and Oliver Harvey occupying central midfield roles, and Ralphy Spicer on the left. Leading the line was striker Trey Grant, supported just behind him in the attacking midfield role. This setup was designed to provide defensive solidity through the back three while allowing width and creativity from the midfield wings and central areas. The expectation was for the wide midfielders to supply crosses and create chances for the lone striker, with the central midfielders controlling the tempo and linking defence to attack. On the bench, SYL Blacks had four substitutes ready: Yusef Oyeniyan, Caiden Brennan, Harrison Ogden, and Yaseen Lamin.

The match began with SYL Blacks asserting early dominance. At 15 minutes, Trey Grant opened the scoring with a spectacular long-range strike using his left foot, expertly set up by a short pass from right midfielder Buddy Sanders. This goal set the tone for the home side’s attacking intent. Just four minutes later, at the 19th minute, Grant doubled the lead with a close-range header from a precise cross delivered again by Buddy Sanders, demonstrating the effective partnership down the right flank.

Immediately following this double strike, SYL Blacks made a flurry of tactical substitutions at the 20-minute mark. Yusef Oyeniyan replaced Buddy Sanders on the right midfield, Caiden Brennan came on for central midfielder Oliver Harvey, Harrison Ogden took over from left defender Aiden Nsah, and Yaseen Lamin substituted Ollie Strachan in central midfield. These changes indicated a strategic shift to maintain intensity and fresh legs across the pitch.

The first half concluded at 30 minutes with SYL Blacks comfortably in control. Early in the second half, the home goalkeeper Alan Szular made a crucial contribution by saving a penalty at the 38th minute, denying Santos Panthers any chance of a comeback and preserving the clean sheet.

Further tactical adjustments followed at 40 minutes. Ollie Strachan returned to the field, replacing left midfielder Ralphy Spicer, while Buddy Sanders was reintroduced on the right wing in place of striker Trey Grant. Oliver Harvey came back on for central defender Leon Sanders, and Aiden Nsah resumed his role at left defender, substituting Rais Quartey. These changes appeared to refresh the team’s structure while maintaining their attacking threat.

The substitutions paid immediate dividends as Ollie Strachan scored at 41 minutes, finishing inside the box with his right foot after a neat short pass from Caiden Brennan. This goal extended SYL Blacks’ lead to 3-0 and further deflated the visitors.

At the 50th minute, Yusef Oyeniyan showcased his individual skill with a solo goal, finishing with his right foot following a set-up assist from the returning Buddy Sanders. This fourth goal underlined the home side’s dominance and attacking prowess.

The scoring was completed at 59 minutes when Buddy Sanders himself found the net inside the box, converting a short pass from Oliver Harvey with his right foot. This fifth goal sealed a comprehensive victory for SYL Blacks.

Throughout the match, the home side’s tactical flexibility and depth were evident, with substitutes making significant impacts. The defensive trio, supported by goalkeeper Alan Szular’s penalty save, kept a clean sheet against a frustrated Santos Panthers. Meanwhile, the midfield and forward lines combined creativity and clinical finishing to secure a resounding 5-0 triumph.

Trey Grant was deservedly named player of the match for his early brace that set the foundation for SYL Blacks’ success. The Under 18 referee officiated the game with a solid performance, ensuring the flow of the match was maintained.

In summary, SYL Blacks delivered a commanding display at the Waterside Campus, demonstrating tactical acumen, attacking flair, and defensive resilience to dominate Santos Panthers U12 Black and claim all three points in this league fixture.
