The Stumble Inn got revenge on United for the 6-1 defeat earlier in the season with a 6-2 victory
In blustery conditions at Hylton road it was Stumble Inn who got the first goal on 7 minutes when a dubious penalty was awarded after Scott Wainwright was adjudged to have brought down the attacker in the box, although there was little (if any) contact and the attacker hit the ground like he had been shot. The penalty was put away past the despairing Stu Bowman in goal who dived the right way but couldn't get a touch to stop it going in
United nearly levelled on 12 minutes when a 30 yard thunderbolt from Graham Smith was tipped over the bar.
It should have been 2-0 on 22 minutes when the attacker got through one on one but he put his shot 5 yards wide of the goal when it was easier to score
However Stumble Inn did double their advantage on 26 minutes. A corner was flicked on at the front post and headed in from 4 yards out.
Then real controversy for the 3rd goal on 37 minutes. Iain Ray miskicked the ball which went towards 2 Stumble Inn players who were both in an offside position (but of course not offside because it was our player who kicked the ball. However the player furthest back flicked the ball with his shoulder into the path of the most advanced striker (who was blatantly offside) and he put the ball into the net. Referee however gave the goal and pretty much put the game to bed.
Half Time - The Stumble Inn 3-0 Wear United
United were awarded a penalty on 53 minutes when Scott Stevenson played the ball across the box and it was handled by the Stumble Inn defender. In form Dan Musther confidently steeped up and slammed it home
On 78 minutes Stumble Inn were awarded another penalty when Graham Smith timed his tackle wrong but the penalty was skied over the bar and nearly put a window out in a house on Hylton Road
Stumble Inn got their 3 goal cushion back on 80 minutes when a neat lob over Stu Bowman found the net.
2 minutes later, the goal of the game, was scored by United. Andy Meikle played the ball to Scott Stevenson on the left wing he ran past a defender before unleashing an absolute rocket into the top corner of the net from an acute angle.
On 84 minutes a nice through ball split open the United defence and the Stumble Inn player kept his composure to place the ball under the out rushing Stu Bomwan and into the net
It was 6-2 in the last minute of the game when a nice little run and cross was met with a header from 5 yards out to complete United's misery
