Ascot Royals 2 vs 3 Binfield Lions

The game started with Ascot Royals Piling on pressure, trying for a quick goal in the opening minutes! The Royals’ Striker and Winger were promptly thwarted time after time by Cam & Bobby in defence, with TJ, Harvey, OH and Hazza helping defend and working the midfield.  The Lions started counter attacking and won a corner. OH planted the ball in the gap at the near post; the ball glanced off an Ascot defender and ended up in the back of the net.  A Great Goal! Lions 1, Royals Nil   Jack and Ollie joined the fray in defence and Midfield.  Joe, Jack, Cam, Bobby, OH, Ollie, Harvey, Hazza and TJ; the whole team played excellent football to keep the Royals at bay for the remainder of the 1st half.   In the second half, a deadly accurate cross by Hazza was planted firmly in the back of the net with an Awesome Header by TJ!  A Goal worthy of being featured on Match of the Day! Fabulous! Lions 2, Royals Nil   Ascot counter attacked and managed to score, getting their foot into the game. Lions 2, Royals 1   A great cross from Ollie saw Hazza make a run at Goal and take a great shot that was deflected by a defender. Moments later, Hazza picked up the ball at the halfway line, skilled past a heavy shoulder barge, out-paced and skilled past 4 Ascot Defenders to blast a shot past the Ascot Keeper. Another Goal worthy of being featured on Match of the Day! Fabulous! Lions 3, Royals 1       The Royals never gave up and after a good few attempts to breach our defence, scored a 2nd goal. Lions 3, Royals 2   In the last seconds of the game, an Ascot player went down in the box about 5 yards from the referee; Ascot called for a penalty, the Ref was looking straight at the player and had the best view of all; he waved play on. With that the referee blew for time, and what ensued was regrettable to say the least… with the Ascot coach sadly choosing to scream and shout at our players, the Ref and across the field at our manager! The ref was standing right next to him! Sir Alex Ferguson was banned for 5 matches for merely criticizing a match official. It makes you think what Ascot’s guidance for conduct of their managers is given the screaming; frightening and intimidating of the boys, the referee and our officials?  That said we hope this was an isolated incident as usually Binfield & Ascot matches are well spirited and we wouldn’t want to tarnish the good relations between the 2 clubs in recent years, in fairness another of the coaches apologised immediately for the incident to our manager.   In spite of the shameful fiasco in the closing minutes, it was a great game of football and a well-deserved win for the Lions.   MOM was Hazza for his outstanding skills passing Ascot Players, time and time again; scoring a fabulous goal.
