Home league match played on 26 January 2020.
Kicked off at 10:00 AM

Sunday 26th January Bransgore vs Milford on Sea Under 9’s

There was a pitch inspection at 8:15am as there had been as a routine lately, after all of the awful weather we have had it’s become essential that we get there to check the pitch to make sure it’s playable.

Thankfully the pitch wasn’t too bad, however the goalmouths were really soft again, so I got out a giant roller with spikes and lugged it around with Harry’s help!! Goalmouths flat! Back aching!! ??

All the boys arrived and looked in good spirits!

The focus of the warm up was some 3on3 mini games with the aim to keep the ball. We had done this in training in the week and it worked well!

With myself and Mark currently doing our FA Level 1 course we have picked up some good little tips which will help us in supporting the boys to grow in confidence and the main things we have taken from it is that we want the boys to ‘master the ball’! This is the age where they need to develop the confidence to control, manipulate and strike the ball, so we will be trying lots of new skills and practice games to try to get them to improve this.

Before the match we spoke to the boys about getting back to holding the ball and trying where possible to be creative. Myself and Mark really want to see the boys express themselves and get comfortable on the ball. I know this will take time but the theory behind it is that boys will only grow in confidence if we encourage them to do it, and the weekly skills will help with that!

We decided to play 1-3-3 to start and had Caleb in goal. Ronnie, Harry and Finnley the back 3 and Charlie, Harvey and Jack the front 3. This was with the aim to practice breaking quickly together and also that if one of the back 3 pushed forward the other 2 would sit in.

We started well and Charlie had a great chance to get on the scoresheet in the 1st minute, but unfortunately the ball went just wide. Within a minute we had another great chance and after Harry dispossessed their player in our half, he went a mazey run with good confidence on the ball shown and eventually got all the way to their box where he then had a shot, the goalkeeper parried it and Harvey came in a finished the ball sweetly to put us 1-0 up. ??

The game got a bit messy but we did have some good chances in that period. We struggled in the centre of the park in my opinion as where we had changed formation we didn’t have our holding midfielder and at times when the ball broke this gave Milford time on the ball.

On 8 minutes another great chance worth a mention, when Jack did some great work in tackling and winning the ball, only to skill their player on the outside and then he attacked the space down the line and crossed in for a Harvey who struck it first time against the right hand post. Great play and great first time effort.

On 9 minutes we scored again. Possibly our best team goal of the day when Harry won the ball, passed to Finnley who in turn skilled a player then passed to Jack down the line, who then crossed the ball for a Harvey to smash the ball home. Great goal and a great break!! 2-0 ????

On 12 minutes we made 2 changes. We bought Frankie on for Harry and Dylan (making his second appearance) on for Harvey.

Caleb needed to be at his best on 16mins to make a double save when we tried to clear the ball only for it to fall kindly for their player who shot low to Caleb's left which he saved smartly, and although Caleb couldn’t hold the ball, he did then get up very quickly to smother the second shot at their attackers feet. Game remained 2-0.

On 21 minutes Frankie went on a run and ended up just outside the box and excellently slotted home to the bottom left hand corner for his first goal of the day! 3-0 ??????

Charlie had another difficult opportunity to score, credit to Jack for some great turns and breaking again unselfishly crossing for Charlie who just poked the ball wide.

Half time

2 changes made again and Finnley and Ronnie came off for Harry and Harvey. At half time I decided to change back to our original formation of 1-2-3-1. Again this was to try and give us more in the centre of the pitch and I think in time we will play 1-3-3 but with the 2 wide men playing higher up the pitch and the central player in the front 3 sitting in front of the CB.

We were quickly off and running in the 28th minute with more goals and I think the boys looked more comfortable in the new set up. The ball was won in defence and played up to Harvey who got his Hat-trick with a smashing finish! ????????

Harry seemed desperate to score and at times could’ve given the ball to a team mate who may have been in a better position before shooting. However I had tasked all the boys with using their skills and strength and trying to run at the Milford defence, and it’s really good to see them trying it! Harry thought he’d scored on 31 minutes but his fierce shot was caught between the legs of the goalkeeper.

On 33 minutes Dylan got his 2nd in 2 games with a neat finish at the back post after some good work from Charlie and Jack.??????????

On 35 minutes Frankie got his second of the game after some good play from Dylan and Harry. Frankie burst forward with the ball and unleashed a powerful shot into the bottom left corner! 6-0 ????????????

On 35 mins we bought Ronnie on for Charlie and gave Ronnie a run up front. Well done Charlie for your efforts and you were unlucky not to score on the day ??

On 38 mins Dylan came off for Finnley after putting in a great shift and getting a good goal.

Harry eventually got his goal on 38 minutes after a powerful shot from Harvey deflected up in the air and Harry cheekily flicked the ball on with his head and over the goalkeeper. 7-0 ??????????????

On 41 minutes there was a great cross/shot from one of the boys and on the back stick rose Ronnie high up in the air.......only to punch the ball in the net ??! Whilst this has obvious comical value all boys must remember that in older age groups you could get booked for this so let’s not make it a habit ??

However.......Ronnie redeemed himself on 43minutes by getting on the scoresheet with a neat half volley finish after another cross from Jack 8-0. ????????????????

On 46 minutes Frankie got his Hat-trick after Milford had a goal kick which was played out and instantly stolen by Frankie. Frankie’s confidence was booming at this stage and he ran on powerfully gliding past 2 of their players and he smashed home the finish. 9-0. ??????????????????

On 48 minutes Frankie grabbed another great team goal and his 4th on the day. Some great passing ended in it being 10-0 to the gore ????????????????????

We then scored our final goal and some excellent work from Finnley taking on 2 of their players and unselfishly crossing for Harvey who finished for his 4th of the day and 13th league goal of the season. ??????????????????????.

Those that felt for the other team may have been pleased to hear the final whistle, I on the other hand wanted it to continue as the boys were really starting to put together some great combinations and despite the level of opposition not being as strong as it has it was great for the boys confidence and just what myself and Mark had hoped for.

There was some individual excellence today and great team play. In the videos that Martha took there were some excellent combination and some great turns, dynamic runs through the middle and great communication from the boys.

Trainer of the week went to Finnley for playing really well and listening to us throughout.

MOTM went to 2 of the boys today as I couldn’t split it. Firstly to Jack for his excellent touches and turns and getting 3 assists. His delivery from set piece was also really good and his long throw can quickly turn defence into attack with that ball down the line.

Secondly to Frankie for his dynamic runs with the ball, some outstanding tracking back when their players were through on goal ending in 2 great tackles. Also his 4 goals on the day which is Frankies best goal scoring day without doubt under me and Mark.

Well done to Harvey for getting 4 goals! And all the boys and Caleb for their 3rd clean sheet in the league ??

I could mention all the boys for individual bits of excellence however thanks to Martha we have some footage to show some of these skills!

Up the gore!! ????

We only do positive!!
