Home friendly match played on 12 August 2012.
Kicked off at 2:00 PM

Guide Post got back to winning ways with a comfortable win over Wansbeck, if we had taken some gilt edged chances could have got double figures.

Football played by the boys at times was excellent certainly encouraging but at other times we dropped off the pace and let the spirited opposition back into the game. Need to defend better as a whole team, and not have bad patch where we lose concentration and give silly goals away. On Tuesday we will be playing better standard of opposition and will have to work hard for the full 60 minutes.

One of the best moves of the game came within first five minutes, great one touch inter play involving Joe I, Luke and Olly set Ethan up for a good chance which he just put wide. That is the football want to see let the ball do the work! Soon after we got the first goal, a loose ball at edge of area was powerfully struck by Joseph and a deflection gave the keeper no chance. Next goal came pretty quickly a corner was not cleared and Nathan up from the back hit home nicely. Luke I think was next on the score sheet, nice play found him in space he took the ball on well and smashed it home leaving the keeper no chance.  Ethan finished well again after some good link up play. Four nil up we looked comfortable. Cameron had come out well a couple of times to stop the Wansbeck attacks but the only pressure we were under was when we failed to clear the ball.  First goal for Wansbeck came from another time when we got caught in possession and the striker finished nicely. A couple of minutes later, with Mason out of position they caught us on the break and again a good finish. Poor end to the half.

Second half with the wind advantage Guide Post pretty much dominated with Cameron having very little to do, other than be involved in disallowed goal incident. At the other end we had lots of chances. and but for some good keeping and wide finishing would have had a lot more than the three goals to show for it. Casey finished nicely after getting on to a through ball, and then he set up Ethan with a good ball and he got a touch past the advancing keeper, he was well on side due to the defensive sweeper Wansbeck employed in the second half. Oliver finidhed off the scoring late on after good team play. Final score 7-2.

Many thanks to Ethan and Casey who helped us out today as we were short on numbers and thanks to Dave who ran the side while I refereed the game.  Dave commented that we had played some good stuff at times, but that we do need to concentrate and be quicker at clearing the ball away. Also that we need more VOICES on the pitch we are a very quiet side, need to support each other and be more vocal. One player who did have a good voice on him and who continues to impress is Cameron in goal, keep up the good work,

For man of the match, Ehan B was given the award by Dave well done Ethan! For me  Joe, Luke and Olly had strong games, while Casey caused the defenders a lot of problems with his strength. Mason was the pick of the main defensive line, no nonsense approach working well.
