AB + Aaron leads from the front as Heyside pass test!!!

Back to league action today at Wright Robinson as Heyside took on our Division 3 cup final opponents Waterloo in the last of our 4 scheduled league games.

Straight from the kick off Heyside piled on the pressure on the Waterloo defence who struggled to contain what was a great start from the boys.

The pressure had to tell and eventually the goal came as Matty won the ball with a superb tackle just inside his own half before passing to Aaron who played in Ryan with a great pass to send him sprinting clear towards the Waterloo goal. Ryan expertly tucked the ball past the keeper to put the Heyside boys 1-0 into the lead.

This was soon followed by a second as Matty received the ball on half way and played a first time pass for Aaron to storm through and beat the keeper for his first of the day and his first since coming into the B team. His performance was just what we were looking for from him when making the switch as his all action display brought the best out of his team mates.

George in goal and Joel and Lennon were again really solid as a defensive unit and were well backed up further forward by Jake, Jack and Louis as Heyside looked to be on their way to a convincing win.

Just before the break though a Waterloo corner was helped on by a forward and ended up in the back of the net to make the half time score 2-1 to Heyside.

The second half continued very much in the same vain as the first but Waterloo played some good football and kept us on our toes as they fought to get back on level terms.

Heyside however continued to be the better side and neat passing again carved open the Waterloo defence as they pressed for more goals.

Aaron then sealed the game with 2 further goals as he stormed through the Waterloo back line to smash shots past the keeper to cap a fantastic display with a well deserved hat-trick.

The performance today was very similar to last week’s cup game but this time we took our chances and ended up worthy winners and gain a huge psychological advantage over our opponents for our cup final date in May.

Well done everyone – great display and great result.

MOM:  Ryan continued his excellent run of form today and scored a great goal. Sorry to Aaron for not giving him his Hat-Trick trophy after the game, we will put that right at training on Tuesday.
