Plum shows his Klass!!
In the penultimate game of the league season the Menanians got themselves down early to watch Tidystar FC vs Chapmans in the hope of a miracle. Sadly team manager Plumpton's prayers were not answered during last sundays church visit as Tidy took the title with a lucky point!
So the battle continues for a runners up spot. Plumpton came away with the plaudits with two well taken goals with the back 3 of Willan, Plumpton and Ward protecting go-go-gadget arms Bambi for a clean sheet.
Once AGAIN another changed side saw Dobson return to partner his long time striking idle Carson. The opening stages saw Dobson in awe of his hero as he failed to make his mark on the game with his nerves playing on his usually focused mind.
Dobson did show glimpses of his usual Temouri Ketsbaia style form with some sintilating skills which woo'd the stay away crowd. In truth it was not just the crowd who had stayed away with Patterson sadly dissapointing his fans, team mates and managment alike as he decided to stay home and listen to the Champions league soccer on the wireless.
Menan were struggling to get to grips with Klassifieds target man Merron as his physical presence and use of elbows was begining to wind Willan up like a 1960's Chitty Chitty bang bang motor. Thankfully the defence regained control and set a platform for the forwards to do their business.
Once again though it was Plumpton who stepped up to the plate with the score locked at a 0-0 stalemate. A Paul Merson like forward run was met with a delightful through ball from Dobson. Plumpton then did what he has done best this season finishing instinctivly into the corner of the net and giving the Menanians the lead.
Goals from other sources are becoming as rare as a white man riding horseback in Bradford with Dobson, Willan and Carson fireing wide in the first half.
Dobson turned provider on 12 minutes as once again he showed some trickery learnt from many hours of his beloved Mr Woo dvds and like before, squared to Plumpton who finished in the keepers near post like a young Andy Cole for his 12th of the Season. Could he catch Horncastle before the seasons out?
Half time 2 v 0
Menan switched to a more defensive 2 - 1 - 1 - 1 formation in the second half with Plumpton and Ward picking up the role of marking the Sloth lookaliky.
The second half was definately one to forget as Menan struggled to keep the ball and build on their lead due to some wayward throws from Pratt and a lack of movement from a tiring/possibly drunk Willan.
Overall a good defensive display and another clean sheet for the statistics.
The match sponsors "Man boobs arnt for milking" gave their bottle of 1920's french bubbly to Plumpton for delivering two killer blows and a solid enough display at the back.
Two massive games remain, with Royal Oak next week giving the boys chance to gain revenge on Carter, Osguthorpe and his charges. The following week sees the Cup finals night, can Menan pull out a team to be reckoned with on their quest for glory???
