Old 'Nan' slam Young Ones!!
On a beautiful summer’s eve in the heart of the footballing capital of Scarborough, the Menanians fought a surprisingly viscous and youthful outfit in – The Young Ones.
Patterson quickly showed them who’s the daddy with some Susan Boyle crazy slide tackles on the unforgiving turf. Patterson was left wounded, like a reindeer injured on Xmas eve, he knew he couldn’t let the side down and soldiered on to boss the midfield engine room.
An early blow came for the Menanians as Willan failed to show after a mix up with his travel times. After some poor results in Coral, Big time gambler Willan decided to use a standard bus ticket and claim he had bought it as an all day rover!!! This did not go down with Terry the Scarborough bus driver who told him to jog on, and for the Menanians, left them with a bare 6!!
Another mention must go to Brooksby who once again missed the first 3 minutes of the game due to reportedly spending a fair time styling his flowing David Ginola style locks in the mirror of his car. Brooksby did kindly show up and turned on the style in his defence.
The first piece of goal action came as a long ball was pumped forward (Bolton Stylie) from the Young Ones back line. Assist hot shot Ward quickly set out after with a young whipper snapper at his heels like a dog on heat. Somehow the young forward managed to out muscle the bulky frame of Ward and find himself with the soccer, a matter of metres away from returning goalkeeping legend Tony Ross. Unfortunately for Menan the first blow was struck as the Young One finished in style and pegged back Menan for their first time this season. This was to be a test of character, nerve, will, steel, pride and a battle of Pokemon Lovers vs Boleyns goers!!!

The first Menanian chance of note came for Brooksby who acrobatically scissor volleyed a drive into the midriff of his opponent, an act to warm the cockles with much more to come from the long haired show piece.
After some composure by our gang and a willingness to talk and play the game the right way, pass and move to the Menanian groove the breakthrough finally came. 4 or 5 passes were strung before Dorrey unleashed Brooksby in front of goal, he did the rest with a poked finish and brought the scores level.
Half time 1-1
The second half brought bad temper, anger, slide tackles, reckless challenges and this was all without usual hot/big head Mr Willan!
As the tackles flew in, Menan found themselves with some free kicks in decent positions, which sadly Patterson failed to test the Young Ones keeper to the full. It was obvious he should of left it to Thunder Foot free kick specialist Plumpton, maybe that will be looked at in this weeks training.
The heat was really on now with the Pindar Astro Turf arenas atmosphere almost rivalling the famous Istanbul playing fields. Ward brought down some Young Ones as they skipped passed him, almost like a scene from Gladiator as the bodies lay at his feet. A warning from the match official quickly put our chavtastic hot shot inline, but they were very strategic fouls – fair play!
Patterson was loving it, with his Roy Keane like work rate and Nicky Butt style ferocious tackling which resulted in the Young ones finally crumbling as Dorrey finished another team move to make it 2-1.
To top it off and rub salt in the wounds the impressive wizard that is Shaggy Brooksby made it 3 with another toe bung from a Patterson attempted through ball. It could have been a few more in the dieing stages with Ward, Dorrey and Brooksby all firing wide as Plumpton + Ward sat at the back taking turns on the gas and air due to incredible fitness levels.
Brooksby bags the man of the match free shampoo and style vouchers from local hairdressers “Long and shaggy is style not gay”
