Dorey's Delight&nbsp;4 Menan!! <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">Steve Dorey proved goal hero with a stunning strike which was off the scale and took the 3 points home to Menan. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">The boys had changes galore with Brooksby missing the top of the table clash due to &ldquo;having his hair done&rdquo;. The Menanians also had to make do without assist leader Gedly Ward who was soundly replaced by the debut boy Hamilton, who was very shy and nervous making the step up from Scottish lower league Soccer which was obvious by the wet patch on the front of his slacks. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">Big time Patterson slotted home at centre half with a niggling injury picked up at the weekend wrecking havoc on his usual energetic pace and energy. Willan picked up his usual marking job on Eastfields number 9 Drew Mccoubrey. Hamilton and Plumpton formed the engine to the well oiled Menan with Dorey taking his role as fox just outside the box. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">As referee Marshall got the proceedings under way their was an air of uncertainty in the Menan ranks with a scratch team containing debutants and injuries, an unproven force for the Eastfield Boys to reckon with. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">After some early sparring between both sides the first chance of note came as Patterson sent over a &ldquo;Hollywood&rdquo; ball past the Eastfield defensive unit, Dorey was away in acres of space and surely would send the team into the lead&hellip;&hellip;.. It was not to be as he skewed his effort wide to the horror of Willan who gasped at the back. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">Old timer Tony Ross was relatively untested and keeping the game flowing with some neat quick throws. The Menanian staff have worked hard on this in training with Ross&rsquo;s goalkeeping coach Les Sealey passing on a few pointers which worked a treat in keeping the attacks going <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">The tide was beginning to turn as the Menanians began to gel and take a foothold on the game due to the work rate of Hamilton and the sturdy back line. Referee Marshall stopped the game just before half time with Mccoubrey seemingly missing, only to be found in Willans pocket - and the game continued. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">Half time 0 &ndash; 0 <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">The Menanian boys were looking focused as they knew another slip up could send them crashing out of the title race like the Toon from the Premiership. As the boys pressedlike the troops against the Taliban more chances came and went with Dorrey slotting in Hamilton who blazed over from close range. Plumpton was up next after more set up play by Dorey, producing a smart save from the Eastfield stopper with his legs. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">The back line was holding firm with Rossy commanding his D like a ferocious beast, sensing a clean sheet and the rumour of a free pint if he accomplished his task! The platform was built and it was always coming as the moment of the match approached us and up stepped Dorey. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">Another sharp move saw Hamilton lay the ball to Dorey who unleashed an absolute arrow into the heart of the Eastfield net leaving the keeper with not a sniff of a chance of stopping that one. The crowd went wild as chants of &ldquo;Vernon, Vernon&rdquo; echoed from the Menan followers. When asked about his strike in the after match press conference Dorey replied &ldquo;Ye well I kinda just got it from Titch from the kick in on the right, I turned like a ballet dancing supremo leaving defenders for dead then belted the F*cker home!!!&rdquo; Our touchline reporter Gail Hailstorm added &ldquo;Dorey was obviously pleased with that one, I could tell that by the tent in his pants and the cheesy grin on his face; in fact do you have his number?&rdquo; <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">The rest of the game became something of an anti-climax as Plumpton settled into the back two to form &ldquo;the shield&rdquo; and was lucky not to be punished after seemingly falling over the ball, TWICE! The boys were holding firm and giving nothing away with Mccoubrey seeing red and showing his frustration on &ldquo;half a loaf a bread head&rdquo; Willan. <p style="text-align: center;" align="center">Man of the Match, like last seasons game goes to Willan for a sterling Paul Scharner like display at the back and was given by the match sponsors &ndash; Hovis.
