The Menanians cruised their way to the top of the league with a helping hand from 6 a side and all time footballing great Geoff Ossie Osguthorpe. Ossie turned home into his own net to put the icing on the cake during a Tangerine 4-1 win against league rivals Royal Oak.

There were some notable team changes as the Menanians waltzed their way from the changing rooms to the Pindar Astro Arena as two debutants took their place in the squad. Danny Stevens and Mike Graysocks received their first big time call up in what some perceived as a mouth watering clash between attacking football and defensive boredom.

The Oaksters looked confident in the early stages, surprising the Menan management team with some actual attackers amongst their ranks. Their team also had one notable absentee as Magic Mike took up his place on the touchline with his usual management tipple of a bottle of San Miguel and some dental floss to aid him through the game.

Carter and Boorer linked well in the early stages pulling a number of top draw saves from our man between the sticks Tony “the tiger” Ross as he flung himself to the left and right like a routine from Strictly Come Dancing. Ross was in peak physical condition after some mean drinking sessions and heavy binge eating over the Christmas period with team Fat Fighters leader Margery Dawes claiming Ross had not only piled on two stone but attempted to make love to her leg on several “Fattys” gatherings.

Meanwhile the goal action began to flow as Ross kept it out at the Menan end, Fowler couldn’t follow suit in the Oak pokey as new boy Stevens squared to Willan after a Plumpton through ball from the back. Willan continued his unbelievable goal scoring run by placing the ball with his usual power and hammer head style finish.

Gez Ward was quick to get in on the act finishing sharply after some good Willan work.

Mr Ross continued to be in inspired form as the cackling Scotsman put on what can only be described as a master class of shot stopping denying his Ayton buddy Howard Carter time after time. Carter was beginning to find himself incredibly frustrated as Tony the Tiger held the upper hand in their personal duel.

A moment of controversy then occurred as the Oak keeper Jamie Fowler needlessly rushed out of his area to smother the ball from the onrushing Ward, which resulted in a PK. Ward picked up the ball and drilled it home for his 9th of the campaign which angered Ossie the Oak Captain who was adamant it was never a spot kick. After a couple of minutes Ossie calmed, was subbed, came back on and lit up the game like only he can….

It happened, the moment we had all been waiting for as Willan set off down the left wing, Karel Poborsky style and fired towards goal only to see Ossie neatly side foot the ball past his own goal tender in expert fashion. A finish that West Ham great Alessandro Diamanti would have been proud of. Magic Mike roared, the crowd were disgusted and through turd, the Royal Oak players yelled and the Menan players pissed their pants at what will go down as one of the most memorable goals scored at Pindar School end.

The MOM gong selected by a panel of X-Factor style judges including Pete Waterman and Sally Gunnel gave the golden glove style trophy to Tony Ross once again, proving Menan were right to reject the Eastfield Boys £8 Million transfer bid this window.

Above sees Menan Hero Tony the Tiger Ross who has been subject of an £8M Bid from Eastfield Boys
