Leatherhead FC 5 vs 1 Oxshott Royals Seniors

LDSFL Division One   LEATHERHEAD 5  OXSHOTT ROYALS 1   Leatherhead opened their league campaign with a comfortable victory over Oxshott on a sun drenched morning at Fetcham Grove.   Ed Savitt opened the scoring after just 4 minutes, heading home from close range, after a corner from Will Ashdown was not cleared. The home side dominated possession in the early exchanges, but failed to open up a five man Oxshott defence. As the game wore on Leatherhead were found to start to pass the ball with greater fluency creating openings for Scott Coppin and Justin Holman which were spurned. It was Holman who doubled the lead on 28 minutes finishing an excellent move that involved Coppin.   The introduction of “roll on, roll off substitutions” this season resulted in a truncated spell before half time, with both teams making a series of changes, much needed due to the temperature. Fenwick unfortunately left the field with a calf strain.   The third goal for Leatherhead, which seemed inevitable, ended the game as a contest, with Leyland striking a 52nd minute, first time shot from 25 yards, into the bottom corner, giving the visitors keeper no chance. Leyland made it 4-0 on 66 minutes ending a fine move down the left side, finishing confidently from the edge of the penalty box, and the game then lost its pace and tempo. Holman made it 5-0 after 77 minutes, before Oxshott scored a consolation with 8 minutes remaining with a fine left footed drive from long range.    Team;
