Barnfather's Rocket rallies Thorney!

Thorney close inn re-emerged from the british big freeze, with a league cup quarter final vs in form Ghi hebburn computers. Thorney welcomed two new additions to the squad with John Bewick back for a second spell with the club starting in the centre of midfield for the injured Micky woodward. And Thorneys new Vinnie Jones, Rob Brooke having to settle for a place on the bench. The game was played on a glorious winters morning, but Thorneys early play was anything but glorious, with the four week break looking to be having a big factor in thorneys sloppy play. Thorney however nearly scored after five minutes when John Bewick put in a dangerous cross from the right, The hebburn centre half looking to head the ball out for a corner managed to hit the post. Thorney then nearly went behind when heburn raced through but keeper dave Richardson pulled of a magnificent save. After 20 mins Darren davie was replaced due to injury and Rob Brooke came into midfield. Brooke instantly adding some much needed bite in the centre of the park and were nearly rewarded with a fine individual effort as Brooksy release Makin who fired a 25 yarder off the crossbar. Thorney were struggling to make an impact in the final third and were almost 1 nil down just before half time as Hebburns Striker raced onto a long through ball and slid it past Davie Rich only for the Ginger Cafu who arrived from nowhere to make an awesome last ditch sliding clearance on the line. The half time whistle sounded with both teams scoreless. The second half started with thorney getting the ball down and playing a bit more football. But on 65 mins hebburn took the lead when a 25 yard free kick went straight through the thorney wall giving davie Richardson no chance. Thorney as they have done in countless games before seem to need to go a goal behind before they start playing with any urgency, and it wasnt long before the game was all square. Brooksy released Makin who did brillinatly down the right played the ball across goal for Gary Barnfather to smash home from six yards out. Barnfather then gave thorney the lead almost instantly when he scored a thunderous 25 yard volley, which the hebburn keeper could only watch nestle in the top corner. 5 mins later and it was 3 1, this time Barnfather turned provider when his flick on was raced on to by danny makin who composed himself before firing into the roof of the net from 12 yards. Thorney were playing the kind of football that brought home the treble last year and after a neat pass from midfield dynamo Adam Heath, Barnfather unselfishly squared the ball to strike partner Danny Makin who finished from six yards out. Adam Heath completed the scoring in the 88TH minute when he rose highest to James Shickles corner. Heaths Header to powerful for the keeper who caught the ball but ended up taking the ball over the line with himself. Thorney need to learn that teams arent going to just turn up and roll over for them, when your the team, with all the trophies, other teams raise there games and give 110 per cent to try and get the scalp of beating Thorney close inn.
