Penalty Heartache for Radford!

Radford made the long journey to Whitnash in buoyant mood ready to face Whitnash FC in the George Dutton Cup.  With Seb staying with Moses’ family in Egypt, Beeb away learning how to pick up dust bins and Callum in bed with his bird we were forced to make some changes.

With news also filtering through that Clarkie had been door knocking in the early hours of the morning trying to mug people for his taxi fare and Wilko having disappeared into the seedier parts of Leamington to go skate boarding I have to say I was slightly worried.

The game started slowly and despite a heavy pitch we looked the better of the two teams with the only real danger from Whitnash coming from their left winger.  Both defences looking solid throughout with the only real chance early on falling to us but Lee shot wide of the near post.  A free kick drilled into the box from Ando just after the half hour was flicked home by Wilko who is now top scorer both on and off the pitch 1-0.

Matty picked up an injury just after half time and was replaced by the Bear meaning Woody could slot back into his left wing back role but as we were dealt a blow when Whitnash equalised for 1-1.

With the combined weight of our back 3 being in excess of 60 stone and on a heavy pitch the last thing we wanted was extra time but the referee blew for 90 mins up.  At no point did I think we could lose this…………by far the better team throughout but finishing again being a problem for us and with Lee fluffing another chance in the last few minutes penalties were upon us.

Here is what happened next:

Ando – 100% record for this man.  Once again leaving the keeper with no chance.  Whitnash Convert

Clarkie – Started his run up from his own penalty area before slipping John Terry Style and missing.  Whitnash Convert

Will – Despite his nerves showing balls of steel to smash into the roof of the net.  Whitnash Convert

Wilko – I honestly believe he had been watching kids in the park again……did the ball actually reach the keeper?  Choked again mate.  Whitnash Convert.

So……..defeated on penalties but as one wise man said after the game.  We’ve got to give them the cup………cause we are taking the league!
