Wow what a game!!!It's like watching a tree grow from a seed this is how i view your belief in yourself and each other blossom. There is a fierce determination to do your absolute best when you are on the park and we are all loving it. A few positional changes and a strategy to thwart Marconi's midfield was discussed in the pre game talk. The vibe was good and the coaching/management staff all felt confident in causing an upset. The first half we displayed a very defensive approach and we did not get much opportunity to play the ball wide when transitioning from defense to attack. Marconi were quick and very physical, certainly an aspect of football we need to accept and embrace. So we stopped there progress through the middle as the 2 pillars of strength in Catherine and Maddy F muscled up and closed everything down. But alas an opportunity arose in behind Milly, and unstoppable strike by an old Sharkie flew across and out of reach of the outstretched Adrianna into the top corner. As the end of the first half approached we pressed and and kept them pegged in there own defensive third for a long spell and i felt that this game was certainly not over by a long shot. At half time the rev up by Mick and a quick discussion on being a little more positive and proactive in our approach put us back on track with a lot to do in the second half. I feel by bringing Georgia on at 5 and pushing Milly forward back into her normal position of 11 there was a greater desire to get the ball forward and with Georgia overlapping things were starting to look brighter. And it then happened a kick forward over the heads of the Marconi defense by Georgia that spun backwards away from the keeper onto the new 9 of the club Gen (who by the way had to ask if she could stay on as the plan was to take her off at half time) who then very calmly volleyed the ball over the keeper into the goal. It was amazing to watch you guys lift another notch as you pressed harder sniffing out another goal. The introduction of Georgia and Emma from the 17's brought extra life to our game as we hunted for the winner. A big hit by Maddy F on the coaches daughter brought some nasty comments from the mouth of the father. I had to control Bertha as she lunged forward to go head to head with him. (only joking), but she was quite angry let me tell you. Then we brought on Zoe from the 15's who still is only 13 into 2 and she amazed me. Her first touch and her quick passing were top notch and she kept their 11 quite as well. So the game finished 1-1 and even though we did not win it felt like a victory as it was a big step in progression in our belief and willingness to fight to the end. An absolute tremendous performance girls and we move on. A special mention to the trio in midfield Hannah Carly and Marissa as they were right in the thick of it all. But my best on ground goes to Catherine, who played an intensely focused game. Her coverage of Maddy F and Maddy M all day as well as some very important tackles impressed me. It is so hard to get the ball of her and i will keep saying this. Consistency is the key girls as we go head to head with Olympic at Bates. Consistency in your belief and desire to win at all cost.
