United took on Wearmouth CW Juniors FC for the first ever time knowing a win could put them up to 2nd in the league depending on other results but it wasn't to be. A dominant first half was followed by a very poor second half and the final score was 1-1

United had the first chance on 6 minutes when Andy Meikle released Michael Parkin but just as he was about to pull the trigger a defender got across and put in a perfectly timed tackle to block the shot for a corner

Andy Meikle also created the next United chance on 11 minutes when his free kick into the box was met with a Graham Smith header which went straight into the keepers arms

On 13 minutes Dan Musther freed Michael Parkin but this time his shot was saved by the keeper for another United corner which came to nothing

Wearmouth's first chance was on 15 minutes when a shot from the edge of the box along the ground was easy for Steve Barnes to gather

United came so close to getting an opener on 23 minutes when Callum Atkinson released Graham Smith down the left and his cross was missed by the defender and landed with Michael Parkin but agonisingly for United it came back off the post

On 26 minutes United had another chance to go infront but this time Graham Smith swung in a corner and it was met with a Stephen Sheriff header but it went over the bar

On 31 minutes United hit the post AGAIN!!. Chris Brown played the ball over the Wearmouth defence to Graham Smith and he lobbed the keeper but the ball came back out of the right hand post

Wearmouth had another rare chance on 36 minutes when a corner was headed goalwards and it was kept out by a combination of Craig Averre and the post

United eventually got the breakthrough they deserved on 43 minutes when a lovely passing move involving 4 United players ended with a perfect defence splitting pass by Craig Averre into Chris Brown's path and he curled the ball with the outside of his right foot past the keeper and into the bottom corner

Wearmouth did have the final chance of the half and it took a world class save from Steve Barnes to prevent them from drawing level on 44 minutes. a Shot from inside the box was met with a full stretched diving save to keep United in the lead at the break

The second half had a lot less chances and was a scrappy affair

United's first chance of the half came on 57 minutes when Chris Brown picked up the ball on the right and went past 3 defenders before hitting a shot which was heading into the net but the keeper got across and tipped it wide

On 59 minutes Dan Musther received a ball from the left and he dropped it off for Craig Averre who flicked it up before hitting a volley which went narrowly wide

Wearmouth were getting back into the game and on 61 minutes a free kick to the back post was met with a free header but it went wide

On 65 minutes Wearmouth hit a shot from 35 yards but it went high and wide but on 71 minutes they were level. Stu Bowman gave a free kick away 20 yards from goal after the midfielder had skipped past 3 United players. The free kick was struck sweetly into the top corner giving Steve Barnes no chance

Another free header on 75 minutes nearly gave Wearmouth and undeserved lead but it again went wide and then the game fizzled out completely with no further chances of not
